Daily Red Sox Spring Training Update
The Sox had no game yesterday, but here is what is coming out of the Red Sox camp...
- Dice-K through a bullpen session today and he was incredibly wild. This usually isn't a big deal, but John Ferrell was acting a left handed bat, and almost got hit by a couple pitches. Matsuzaka threw 54 pitches in the side session. Hopefully this has nothing to do with his overuse during the WBC...I don't think it does.
- The torn meniscus in Lugo's right knee will be evaluated by Dr. Tom Gill to see how well it is healing. If Gill's evaluation goes well, it's safe to assume Lugo will be back in drills shortly.
- John Smoltz had no problems the day after his first bullpen session of the spring. It is a very good sign that he doesn't feel tired or any kind of pain.
- Mike Lowell says he feels great and will play again today. He has played 4 of the last 6 days, and has been playing great hitting .318 with 3 HRs.
- Justin Masterson got minor-league duty this afternoon, throwing 4 2/3 innings at the minor league complex for the Sox' Double A club. In his outing, Masterson pitched well, allowing four hits and two walks and striking out six batters. He allowed no runs to score, and threw 81 pitches (50 strikes).
