DMX To Fight MMA?

Rapper DMX is really trying to make a comeback after being released from jail back in May following a string of arrests over the past two years.

While he's continuing to work on new music, his most recent attempt to get back into the spotlight is by entering the world of mixed martial arts (MMA).

The rapper is set to fight in an upcoming bout in December against a member of his management team, as a part of an event being put on by Thunder Promotions in Birmingham, Alabama. more

I love DMX, I do. He is probably the most terrifying man I have ever seen in my life, but I don't want him to lose. He is getting older and if you watched Kimbo Slice yesterday, it's almost sad. I don't think DMX would do well without chains or a blunt object near by.

My Life Is A Joke: The Canseco Story

Sure is was right about basically everything that was going on with steroids, but Jose Canseco is still a complete joke....

"Former Oakland A's baseball slugger Jose Canseco came out swinging but didn't last long in his debut in mixed martial arts. Canseco was stopped by South Korean super heavyweight Hong Man Choi just 1 minute, 17 seconds into the first round at Yokohama Arena. The referee stopped the fight when the 7-feet-2, 330-pound Choi knocked Canseco to the mat and started punching his head (Sportsline)."

This guy will do anything to extend his fame another 30 secs. Did he really think he had any shot against this dude? I mean look that this pic...

I'll give Canseco credit for getting in the ring with this circus freak, but still it is just sad what Canseco will do for attention...

Jose Canseco to Fight MMA?

There has been increased speculation that Jose Canseco may actually be considering fighting mixed martial arts for the DREAM association, a competitor to the likes of UFC, Strikeforce, etc. DREAM already announced the bout between Canseco and his expected adversay Hong-Man Choi scheduled for May 26th. Canseco's Manager said DREAM had jumped the gun by officially announcing the fight, but stated it will most likely be a sure thing in about a week or so.

I think Canseco will actually do this. Despite being a snitch, he has told the truth for the most part, so I would assume he is ready to go through with this. He obviously needs the money, and he seems like he could hold his own in a fight. I personally would love to see Canseco get knocked on his ass.

Amputee Makes Debut in Mixed Martial Arts

This is interesting to say the least ...

"In the world of sports, there is always something wild and crazy going on. Think about where you were when Mike Tyson bites off Evander Holyfield’s ear. You may reminisce on Greg Louganis busting his head on a diving board. Or perhaps one recalls something simple like Iverson “breaking” Michael Jordan’s ankles with that crossover. And then there is Kyle Maynard.

Maynard, 23, is a congenital amputee that fought in his professional mixed martial arts debut over the weekend in Auburn, AL. The Collins Hill grad has no limbs with hands, feet elbows or knee joints. For those that don't know of MMA, fists, arms, feet and legs are essential for the fighting sport, where punching and kicking are commonplace. Maynard lost a unanimous decision to Bryan Fry on Saturday night. Still, the little man’s big heart has shaken up the sports world with an inspirational, but extremely odd outing."

Kimbo Slice VS. Ken Shamrock

I am so excited for this MMA fight. I know Slice will never be on top of the MMA world, and Shamrock is passed his prime, but I still think this is going to be an awesome fight. When MMA started my father and I were actually into it, and used to watch Shamrock, now he is facing off against YouTube sensation Kimbo Slice. Slice won his last fight, but looked rough. Basically the guy throw haymakers, if he connects, the fight is over. If Shamrock can get him on the ground he has a chance. The great thing about this fight is that Shamrock really hates Slice, and is has been training like a beast. I am still rooting for Slice (yea I know I jumped on that bandwagon), because he is so much fun to watch. Fight is at 9pm Saturday on CBS. Don't worry the Sox aren't on, you can watch...

MMA's Primetime Debut

What a cherry popping night for Mixed Martial Arts. CBS debuted its Saturday Night Fights series with a great card of fights. I can't say I have been a long time MMA fan and really never found the UFC craze to be all that interesting. A few more nights like this and the sport just might have a new convert.

The fights tonight weren't technically UFC fights. They belonged to the Elite Xtreme Combat Organization which is the equivalent of double A baseball I guess??? This is where some research would come in handy but fuck it, I'm lazy.

The fighters were either brand new to the scene (Kimbo Slice, Kaitlin Young) or washed up deadbeats from the UFC (Phil Baroni, Brett Rogers). Despite all this, the action was solid. When the two chicks got after it, I got hard. One was kind of cute and man could she take a punch. That's wife material right there.

The fight of the night was easily Robbie Lawler vs. Scott Smith. Lawler was trying to defend the middleweight belt and the fight was set to go five rounds. It looked like it would be over in under 3 minutes but Smith held on. This thing went back and forth for the next round and a half before Smith caught a little thumb in the eye action. A couple of broad doctors got into the cage to take a look and decided to call it. Premature for sure and the two fighters plan to "run it back" real soon.

Kimbo Slice lived up to expectations...of being a terrible fighter in every technical aspect. He may be a youtube sensation but you won't be seeing him fight Tito Ortiz or that Hughues guy anytime soon. James Thompson almost put Slice into submission about 3 times before Slice got lucky and exploded Jimbo's cauliflowered ear all over National Television. Which was pleasant.

Anyways, the real hero was Gus Johnson. Can this guy do anything wrong??? He called this night like a 15 year vet. He made Jim Lampley look like a washed up, wife beating, Larry Merchant wanna be....oh wait.

As an aside, I have the current issue of ESPN magazine hanging over the towel rack in front of my shitter. Can you imagine dropping a deuce twice a day looking at Kimbo's mug staring right back at you?
