James Posey Coming Back To Celtics?

Celticsblog.com ran through all the different trade ideas for the Celtics (Josh Childress, Richard Hamilton, Troy Murphy, Ramon Sessions). The one they seem to think is most likely is James Posey making his way back to Boston. They kind of think of it as a Hedo Turkoglu back to Orlando kind of deal.

I would be a huge fan of this move. Posey gives the Celtics the perfect backup to Pierce and has shown to be clutch defensively. He isn't what he once was, but he knows the Celtics system, and has enough in the tank to really help that 2nd unit that is so banged up.

So what would it take to get it done? There are two way they could work this deal, Daniels and Nate for Posey OR Jermaine O'Neal for Posey. I am fine with either, but if the Celtics could get that waste of space O'Neal off the books for next year I would be happier with that.

Out of the list above the only other guy that I think has any chance of happening is Troy Murphy, since it is almost guaranteed he's going to get bought out.

James Posey to Hornets.... FUDGE

Fuck, Fuck, Fuck... ESPN reports, "James Posey, arguably the most coveted unrestricted free agent left on the market, agreed to a four-year deal with the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday worth an estimated $25 million, his agent, Mark Bartelstein, said."

Fuck.

This sucks, and I am not mad at Posey, he needed to do his thing. But now that he is gone, what are we going to do? Split our mid level exception on Darius Miles, Tyrone Lue and Chris Anderson? No thank you. I'm mad at myself for this one because I was leading the Corey Maggette charge when I should've just stayed focused on Posey.

I'll put a list of possible replacements in a little.

Posey and House Updates

From ESPN, "James Posey, the Celtics' highest-priority unsigned veteran, is seeking a four-year contract, an NBA source said yesterday.

Posey, 31, is treating negotiations as if this could be his final contract and has been in talks with Detroit, the Lakers, New Orleans, Cleveland, and Washington. No team has been willing to offer a deal beyond three years."

and Eddie House
While prized free agent James Posey's situation remains unresolved, it looks as though Eddie House may have one foot out the Celtics door.

"Eddie's not going to sign for one year at the minimum," his agent, Mark Bartelstein, said yesterday. "There's no chance of that. He's got two or three offers on the table right now for more than that."

"I don't think people put the proper value on Eddie House," Bartelstein said. "Because he's not manufactured to specifications as a 1 or a 2, everyone in the business tends to overanalyze things. Eddie doesn't fit the preferred specifications. All he does is help win games." -- Boston Herald

I don't believe James Posey really deserves a four year deal, but we need to do, what we need to do to get him back. If we let him go then we let someone that can guard Chauncey Billups to Lebron James to Kobe Bryant go, that just is too much to give up.

I don't believe Eddie house back due to the fact we wont be able to sign him without dipping into our Mid Level Exception that we need to sign Posey. As much as I love Eddie, I just don't see him wearing green next year.

Maybe Posey Will Sign Today?

This is what ESPN Insider said, "Celtics forward James Posey's agent, Mark Bartelstien, said Sunday that there could be "something" contract-wise for his client on Monday.

Bartelstien would not divulge the interested teams, but an NBA source said that the Hornets seem to be Boston's main competition. -- The Boston Globe"

I am sorry about that story I reported a while ago, it seemed pretty legit. However, I will not say he is going to sign with the Celtics today, but it looks that way. He is supposed to be their on the DVD Release and was spotted at Alonzo Morning's charity event, that has to be a good sign, right?

Posey Is Back

According Hoopsworld, " James Posey is expected to announce that he'll re-sign with the Boston Celtics in the next 24 hours"

Well thank god. I still don't believe it until it happens, so more tomorrow....

Can We Please F'n Sign James Posey Today

I was overly confident about Corey Maggette, and now I am starting to panic. We need to make a move instead of just "chillin". Posey was a huge part of the Celtics championship run and I believe he can still make an impact next year. Before I said he isn't worthy of a full mid level exception, but he is. We watched Maggette, Bietrus, and Jones get all picked up so now we have no other options.

Corey Maggette

Boston.com "The Celtics have made contract offers to two forwards: Their own free agent, James Posey, and Clippers free agent Corey Maggette, sources told the Boston Globe. The most the Celtics could offer is the mid-level exception (about $5.8 million), and it's doubtful that they could sign both players. The terms of the offers were not disclosed."

I probably don't think Maggette will come for a mid level exception of 5.8 million dollars but it would be fun to have him. He has always been a good player (22.1 points and 5.6 rebounds last season) and it looks as if he will not be a Clipper next year. If he wants to win you have to sign with Boston. Maggette would fit in perfectly in coming off the bench when the offense is placid.

As for Posey, I love him but if he wants us to sign him for 5 years, we have to let him go. He was a huge part of the championship run but he is not a Maggette type player.

Posey Opts Out

According to Boston.com, "James Posey will opt out of the second and final year of his contract with the Celtics."

Well this really isn't big news, we all expected it. The question is, will he take our mid level exception? James said he wanted to come back with the Celtics and trust me I believe he was the centerpiece of this championship run and want him back, but is he worth the 4 year 50 million dollar contract? The Lakers and Hornets along with the Celtics seem to be the front runners at getting him.
