Celtics Trade Looks Even Better

"Thunder guard Nate Robinson had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks, the team announced Friday. Robinson, who has played one game for Oklahoma City after being traded from the Celtics last month with Kendrick Perkins for Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic, experienced discomfort in his knee following Monday's practice (WEEI)."

Ainge you cheeky bastard, that's two players traded to the Thunder, and two cases of knee problems. Not that Robinson was the major piece of the trade, but with "throw in" Krstic already outperforming projections this trade just keeps looking better and better.

I will miss Robinson's antics, but he really was pretty useless for the Celtics, and at the end of the day is just too small to be a consistent player.

James Posey Coming Back To Celtics?

Celticsblog.com ran through all the different trade ideas for the Celtics (Josh Childress, Richard Hamilton, Troy Murphy, Ramon Sessions). The one they seem to think is most likely is James Posey making his way back to Boston. They kind of think of it as a Hedo Turkoglu back to Orlando kind of deal.

I would be a huge fan of this move. Posey gives the Celtics the perfect backup to Pierce and has shown to be clutch defensively. He isn't what he once was, but he knows the Celtics system, and has enough in the tank to really help that 2nd unit that is so banged up.

So what would it take to get it done? There are two way they could work this deal, Daniels and Nate for Posey OR Jermaine O'Neal for Posey. I am fine with either, but if the Celtics could get that waste of space O'Neal off the books for next year I would be happier with that.

Out of the list above the only other guy that I think has any chance of happening is Troy Murphy, since it is almost guaranteed he's going to get bought out.

Celtics' Walking Wounded

The Celtics bench is the walking wounded right now. First, let's start with the good news. Delonte sounds like he will be back either Sunday or Wednesday. Doc said whatever game he does come back he will likely only play 10 mins, but Doc would like to get Delonte a game before the All-Star break.

There isn't much news on Shaq. His Achilles is still acting up and there is basically no shot we seem him until after the break. Nate Robinson had to leave the game last night with a bruised right knee. He is expected to have an MRI today to determine the extent of the injury. That one really hurts, because until Delonte is back the Celtics will have Von Wafer and Avery Bradley in the backcourt behind Rajon.

Not much news on Daniels, but ESPN is floating the rumor the Celtics might waive him, since they have a full roster and needs more healthy bodies with all these guys out. Don't be shocked if the Celtics make a move for a SF at some point...

"The bottom line is every team goes through these situations," Ainge told The Boston Globe. "Right now, I can't say anything. I have to manage our future payroll. I have to manage our team next year. There are a lot of things to weigh and there will be a lot of things that come across my desk. Just because a guy plays small forward doesn't mean he's better than the guys we have. We want to add quality to our team (ESPN)."

Celtics Injury Bug Won't Go Away

The Celtics have the best record in the Eastern Conference at 14-4, but that doesn't mean that don't have their troubles. Jermaine O'Neal is said to be at least a week away from even practicing again. Delonte West is out for several months after breaking his wrist. Now there are reports that Rondo looked off last night because his hamstring is giving him trouble again. This is obviously terrible new for the Celtics as they are already thin at the PG position. To make matters worse Nate Robinson is having pain in his heal, and that injury only seems to be getting worse.

This could lead to Daniels getting more time at PG, and eventually I think you are going to see Bradley getting some minutes. You hope these injuries don't go on all year, but you just never know.

Nate Robinson Going To NFL?

"Most are anticipating a lockout in the summer of 2011 as owners and players may not reach an agreement on terms of a new collective-bargaining agreement by July 1 of next year.

And it's got Nate Robinson wondering about trying out a double-dip of football and basketball.

Robinson last played football as a freshman at Washington before committing himself to basketball full-time.

"It all depends on this lockout," Robinson told the Boston Globe. "If we have a lockout, you might see a lot of guys, including myself, try out and see where it takes you, just see if you can do it or not. You never know what can happen (ESPN)."

So many reasons why this won't happen. For one he is tiny, and I doubt he is good enough. Beyond that there is a good chance there will not be an NFL season next year either, so it might not even be an option.

What I could see happen is a lot of NBA players going overseas to play. The NBA seems to be growing year after year (I have nothing to back that up, but it does seem to dominate headlines), so they really need to do anything they can to avoid a lockout. We have seen sports have a hard time bouncing back after a lockout (MLB/NHL), so hopefully that can figure something out.

Random Celtics News

Here is Nate Robinson still fucking around with Shaq and putting salt water in his drink:

and I guess Delonte is playing like a madman:
"I’m just happy to be given this opportunity to do what I love," he said. "I’m lucky to be here. I’m happy to be here. I’m a soldier in Doc’s army. Whatever he needs me to do. I’ll go to war and die for this team. Playing every game, every minute this year like my life depended on it, cause it [does.] Nothing’s promised."

"I’ve been given this opportunity to prove to the NBA and the world that I’m a good person," West said. "I have a lot to prove and I don’t want to let anyone down. For them to say they want this guy back and Danny Ainge to say that, Wyc [Grousbeck] and the ownership and some of the players… that’s a high compliment. That’s something that you’re going to take to the grave with you. When you’re done playing you’ll tell your kids, 'Doc Rivers wanted me to play for him.' Maybe I’m not this quote unquote bad guy after all." From EEI

I love Delonte, I felt really bad when we traded him for Ray Allen because I believe he had a special bond with Boston. You can call him every name in the book, but there is one thing that I can say with all confidence, is that he is a baller, and he works really hard at it. He may be nutso off the court, but on the court you won't find a harder working fellow.

Breaking News: Celtics Resign Nate Robinson (UPDATED)

DP hinted last week that this was going to happen (but then again he was totally wrong on Tony Allen), as Nate Robinson is being reported as about to resign with the Celtics.

Shortly before noon, Robinson tweeted: "Cuz I'm back n beantown baby yeah."

I love this signing, though I have no idea how much it is for or how long. I just feel better that we have a backup PG other then just a rookie. Robinson is explosive, and can breathe life into this team when they get stale. Yes, he is small, but I expect a better season out of him now that he has had some time in the Celtics system.

Now the Celtics need to go out and get another big man, and some SF/SG. Rumors that have been going around lately have the Celtics looking at Matt Barnes. Even though I hate him, he does play great defense, and could be a nice backup behind Paul Pierce.

***UPDATE***

Two-year deal that will pay him approximately $4 million per season.

Celtics Re-Signing Donkey

Per Mark Murphy:

Aaron Goodwin, the agent for Nate Robinson, said yesterday the two sides could reach a deal by the end of the week.

"Things are going well," Goodwin said. "We're just trying to get something worked out. But both parties are talking."

Unlike they had with Allen, the C's don't hold the so-called "Larry Bird rights" to Robinson, and as a result, can't go over the salary cap to give their backup point guard more money.

I have a weird time justifying Nate Robinson. He's electric, energetic, can give you instant offense, however, he's more of a luxury than anything else. He came up big a couple of games during the post season, however for most of the season he came off the bench. And right now with the Celtics back up backcourt being Avery Bradley and Nate Robinson (if he re-signs) doesn't really instill confidence. We better find a way to sign Josh Howard or something because the loss of Tony Allen certainly is stinging more and more every day. The crazy thing about the not signing Tony ordeal is that he loved Boston and we had Bird Rights on him so even if we signed him we would be allowed to go over the cap without penalty. I just don't get it.

Celtics 96 Lakers 89

The series is now tied, and the Celtic owe Big Baby and Nate the Great a beer. Overall this was an ugly game, but that fits the Celtics style a lot more then it fits the Lakers. Boston's defense was outstanding letting only 2 players (Kobe, Poopface) to score more then 10 points.

Still, the Celtics were down, and their bench had to come up big, and man did they ever. Big Baby scored half of his 18 points in the 4th quarter, and Robinson added 12 of his own. The Celtics bench was so good that Rivers was able to keep the starters on the bench till about 3 mins left in the game. If you have been watching all these games then you know that could be huge. The Celtics starters have looked tired and flat at times. Now they got to play some lighter minutes, and get 2 days off in Boston.

Boston's starters were back in the game when Bryant scored 10 of the Lakers' last 12 points, hitting all three free throws to make it 92-86 after he was fouled attempting a 3-pointer with 1:08 left. But then Rondo stole a pass from Bryant and took it the length of the court for a layup that made it an eight-point lead with 32 seconds left, and that was that.

Boston still has work to do, because in my eyes if they want to win this series they are going to have to win game 5. Winning 2 in LA would be asking a lot.

Tony Allen Injury Update

Scary moment when Tony Allen went down last night. Apparently he strained a tendon in his surgically repaired right ankle and now is doubtful for the Portland game tonight. This could be trouble for the Celtics, as Robinson is also doubtful for tonight's game leaving the Celtics with only 10 players.

There is no word on how long Allen could be out from, but it is needless to say the Celtics need Robinson here ASAP, and they also may need to start hitting the free agent market.

The Latest On Nate Robinson To The Celtics (UPDATED)

Sources say the Knicks have reached a tentative agreement on a deal with Boston sending Nate Robinson and a second player to the Celtics for Eddie House, J.R. Giddens and Bill Walker. As of right now we have no idea who the 2nd player from the Knicks will be. Hopefully they just get this deal done already, because I am really sick of reading about it.

I have written this article like 4 times now, so here are the cliff notes.

- I am not a Robinson fan, which apparently makes me a racist.

- I think it is a good trade.

- I will miss Eddie House.

- Robinson can handle the ball, which the Celtics badly need on that 2nd unit.

- I think the Celtics needed to do more.

***UPDATE***

Deal is done it is Robinson and Marcus Landry for Giddens, House, and Walker.

Did BMack Start The KKK

We always wonder, behind his mild demeanor and calm atmosphere what the real BMack was like. Well yesterday, I had an epiphany and it came to me that behind those blue eyes lacks a raging racist, who probably has roots or started the KKK.

How I discovered this wasn't from all the Nazi propaganda or the picture above I found in his room, but when we talked about the Nate Robinson trade.

He said he hated it and will be on a short "leash". Does that mean noose? Who knows. But why wouldn't he like the deal for Eddie House and JR Giddens? The fact is Eddie House has been awful and has brought nothing to the team since the playoff run 2 years ago. He's a one dimensional player, who can't dribble, isn't known to be a great passer, Can't create his own shot and obviously can't defend. I know Nate Robinson isn't the best defender either, but his quickness adds potential for a cheap steal here or there.

What Nate can do is handle the backup point role. He is a great scorer (let's not forget his 41 point game this year, when's the last time Eddie ever did that.) can be the primary ball handler for the second unit, and bring much needed energy to a lackadaisical unit. I will take an energetic, electrifying player over a streaker shooter and a first round bust any day.

So if the Celtics do this, they will be better, but I really hope this isn't the C's big trade.

Oh yea, one last thing on BMack being a huge racist. Let me ask all of you what is his favorite sport everyone?

Hockey.

I know, I'm scared too.

Celtics Trade Rumors (UPDATED)

According to multiple sources, the Celtics and Knicks are close to a deal that would bring guard Nate Robinson to the Celts, possibly in exchange for Eddie House.

Like I said earlier, I would welcome this. I think Nate is a great "spark" player who can pick up the scoring if the second unit is struggling to pick up some points. Even though the second unit will be full of ill advised shots, I think Nate can become the primary ball handler and take some pressure off Marquis Daniels. It isn't the trade I would be really looking for, however, it still is a step in the right direction. Eddie House has fallen out of the players I'm a fan of, so I won't be sad to see him leave if he does go. It's better seeing him go than Tony Allen go.

***UPDATE***

According to another tweet from Alan Hahn of Newsday: "Nate Robinson trade with Celtics done, I'm told. Getting details now, but not so fast. There are confolicting reports on this. When we get the actual trade we will let you know.

The C's Made An Offer For Nate Robinson

The Celtics made an offer for Nate Robinson according to Mark Spears. I don't know who was offered, but I would assume Tony Allen, JR Giddens or Billy Walker and probably a 2nd round pick for Nate. Don't know how to feel about this move to be honest. Nate Robinson is an electric player that provides instant offense, but I don't see him buying into the Celtics defensive system. If he does, I'm all for it, we need some offensive production off the bench and he is a feisty player and if it doesn't work he would be a free agent after the season.

Knicks To Sign Nate Robinson Today

"Alan Hahn of Newsday tweeted that the New York Knicks and restricted free agent guard Nate Robinson will agree on a one-year deal today.

"Robinson, who was a restricted free agent who earlier this summer told the Knicks he had no interest in playing anywhere else, will get more than his $2.9M qualifying offer," Hahn expanded on his Knicks blog. "There are also performance bonuses included in the deal."

Hahn also noted that a deal for restricted free agent David Lee should be forthcoming (ESPN)."

We have been hearing that they were close for awhile, and it sounds like this will be done by the end of the day today. In the end, it really doesn't matter, he sucks, the Knicks suck, they aren't getting LeBron and they won't be in the playoffs...

Nate Robinson Arrested

"New York Knicks player Nate Robinson was arrested Tuesday for driving without a license. Police said Robinson was arrested after officers pulled him over in the Bronx at about 5:30 p.m. and discovered he had a suspended license. The Knicks guard was taken to the 52nd Precinct and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and issued a summons to return to court at a later date, police said. A Knicks spokesman said they were aware of the situation and would discuss it with Robinson directly (Sportsline)."

Robinson is a restricted free agent and I think the Knicks will eventually bring him back, but I don't know if it really matters. Personally, I think this guy is so overrated. Sure he is fun to watch, and it is amazing what can he can for his size, but overall he isn't going to bring the Knicks back to respectability, and should be nothing but a late guy off the bench. This arrests won't mean anything. I'm sure he can find someone to drive his big wheel around.

Nate Robinson About To Resign With Knicks

"The New York Times reports the Knicks and Nate Robinson are nearing an agreement on a one-year contract that will pay $5-6M for the 2009-10 season. If Robinson's deal is finalized, it will end the Knicks' pursuit of Milwaukee's restricted free agent Ramon Sessions (ESPN)."

Basically this deal is just to shut up the fans in New Work. Everyone knows the Knicks are eyeing next offseason with all the "big" free agents coming out. That is why they are only giving Robinson a one year deal. The reason Robinson will sign? Because the Knicks are over paying him and he is just cashing in.

Nate Robinson Takes Dunk Competition

Nate Robinson took home the Dunk Title over Dwight Howard by literally jumping over Dwight Howard. This dunk competition would have been terrible if not for Nate Robinson and Dwight Howard's personalities. None of the Dunks except for the Robinson over Howard dunk was that impressive. It was also funny to see how the judges judged Rudy Fernandez compared to Dwight Howard. Dwight Howard did a far easier dunk compared to Fernandez and he got a 50 compared to a 43. All in all a majority of these dunks were lame but the personalities of Nate and Dwight saved the show.
