James Posey Coming Back To Celtics?

Celticsblog.com ran through all the different trade ideas for the Celtics (Josh Childress, Richard Hamilton, Troy Murphy, Ramon Sessions). The one they seem to think is most likely is James Posey making his way back to Boston. They kind of think of it as a Hedo Turkoglu back to Orlando kind of deal.

I would be a huge fan of this move. Posey gives the Celtics the perfect backup to Pierce and has shown to be clutch defensively. He isn't what he once was, but he knows the Celtics system, and has enough in the tank to really help that 2nd unit that is so banged up.

So what would it take to get it done? There are two way they could work this deal, Daniels and Nate for Posey OR Jermaine O'Neal for Posey. I am fine with either, but if the Celtics could get that waste of space O'Neal off the books for next year I would be happier with that.

Out of the list above the only other guy that I think has any chance of happening is Troy Murphy, since it is almost guaranteed he's going to get bought out.

Celtics' Walking Wounded

The Celtics bench is the walking wounded right now. First, let's start with the good news. Delonte sounds like he will be back either Sunday or Wednesday. Doc said whatever game he does come back he will likely only play 10 mins, but Doc would like to get Delonte a game before the All-Star break.

There isn't much news on Shaq. His Achilles is still acting up and there is basically no shot we seem him until after the break. Nate Robinson had to leave the game last night with a bruised right knee. He is expected to have an MRI today to determine the extent of the injury. That one really hurts, because until Delonte is back the Celtics will have Von Wafer and Avery Bradley in the backcourt behind Rajon.

Not much news on Daniels, but ESPN is floating the rumor the Celtics might waive him, since they have a full roster and needs more healthy bodies with all these guys out. Don't be shocked if the Celtics make a move for a SF at some point...

"The bottom line is every team goes through these situations," Ainge told The Boston Globe. "Right now, I can't say anything. I have to manage our future payroll. I have to manage our team next year. There are a lot of things to weigh and there will be a lot of things that come across my desk. Just because a guy plays small forward doesn't mean he's better than the guys we have. We want to add quality to our team (ESPN)."

More On The Scary Marquis Daniels Injury

When Daniels dropped to the floor on a seemingly harmless play I really thought this was going to end up being something terrible. Thank God it's not, but this story is becoming very interesting.

"McKeon (Celtics team doctor) confirmed that Sunday's injury was directly related to the same injury sustained in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals last spring, when the team announced at first that Daniels had a concussion. It was disclosed that it was actually a spinal cord bruise (WEEI)."

I must repeat that Daniels has full movement in his arms and legs, but I was really surprised to hear that this was because of a preexisting injury. Does that mean the Celtics knew something like this might happen?

It is also odd, because that injury that are referring to was very similar to this one. A seemingly harmless play and then Daniels just went down. All of this is very odd to me and I want to hear more. The most important thing is that Daniels seems like he is going to be OK. Right now they are saying he is out indefinitely, and you have to wonder if this is something that could happen again. I mean this "bruise" didn't go away in about 9 months, what is one more month of rest going to do?

Celtics Resign Marquis Daniels

The Celtics have come to an agreement with Marquis Daniels for a one-year, $2.5 million deal. Daniels averaged 5.6 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists over 51 games last season. He missed 31 games due to a torn ligament in his left thumb.

I have to say I'm shocked, but this could be a very smart signing. Everyone was very excited about have Daniels on the team before last year. He really seemed to be thrown off by that thumb injury, so maybe if he can stay healthy he can be the player they thought they were getting last offseason. To me it seemed like he didn't fit in, but now he will have a much bigger role with Tony Allen leaving, so hopefully that will spark some life into him.

I still think he should've gone to the Thuggets. He has the attitude, and tattoos to fit in very well there. Anyways, I got no problem with this signing, because they needed a SG, and he is better then anything left out their (other then maybe McGrady).

Marquis Daniels' Stepfather Arrested During Playoff Game

"The stepfather of Celtics guard Marquis Daniels was arrested Tuesday night at Amway Arena during Boston's Game 2 victory over the Orlando Magic. Orlando police arrested Willie L. Buie, 55, and charged him with resisting arrest with violence. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Buie was tased during the incident.

Buie has a long criminal history, including an arrest for second-degree murder. He spent 11 years in prison.

The newspaper reported that police responded to a disturbance in seating behind the basket at 10:55 p.m. When police tried to remove Buie from his seat, he said, "I'm not going, [expletive] you," according to the police report.

The Sentinel reported that it was uncertain why Buie was asked to leave. The disturbance continued at a nearby security office outside of the arena. According to the report, Buie continued to refuse to be handcuffed, which prompted an officer to use his taser.

An officer pulled out his Taser, put it up against Buie's back and shot electricity into him for five seconds, the report shows. After he was stunned, Buie put his hands behind his back and was handcuffed (Boston.com)."

Wow, this guy's season has sucked. First he comes here and is supposed to have a big impact off the Celtics bench, he doesn't do anything like that, and now doesn't even play. To make matters worse his stepfather is fucking nuts and has killed someone and gets booted out of the Celtics playoff game. Kinda embarrassing.

But honestly Daniels lets stop fooling around you know you should be on the Nuggets, so lets make it happen.

Marquis Daniels Injury Update

The Celtics had initially set a target date for just after All-Star Weekend for Marquis Daniels to return to games, but now there is some hope that he will be back earlier. Here is what Doc Rivers had to say...

"He's getting close, so that's a good sign," head coach Doc Rivers told the Boston Herald. "If we can get the New Orleans game in, that would be terrific. That would give him a game before All-Star break to try to get his legs and get some type of rhythm, then come out of All-Star break and we've got our whole team intact for the first time this year (ESPN)."

I really feels like he hasn't played in forever. Right now the Celtics are kind of a mess. They can't seem to play a full game, and are just collapsing in the 2nd half. Whether it be age, rust, or bad coaching, something needs to give this team a spark. Hopefully Daniels coming back, and have the full Celtics team for the first time all year will be exactly what they need.

Marquis Daniels Injury Update

Sounds like good news coming for the Celtics camp...

"Marquis Daniels had a new cast put on his surgically repaired left thumb Tuesday. The general opinion was that he would come back after the All-Star break, but he might return sooner.

"Maybe before then. It all depends. When I go back and get this removed again, I hope everything will be good. ... It's healing really good," Daniels told the Boston Herald (ESPN)."

What is amazing about the Celtics is that they have played so well even with some of their bench players (and starters) out with injuries. It pains me to say, but the Celtics depth is looking amazing with guys like Glen Davis and Tony Allen (the reason it pains me) stepping up their games. It will be interesting to see the rotation Doc uses once he has all his players back...

Marquis Daniels Surgery A Success

"Guard Marquis Daniels underwent successful surgery this morning at New England Baptist Hospital to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb, the team Celtics announced today. No timetable has been set for his return.

Daniels said he noticed the problem during the Celtics’ visit to Indiana last month, and he aggravated the injury in practice earlier this week. Last night's game against the Bucks is the first Daniels has missed with the injury. The surgery, which was unexpected, is likely to cause Daniels to miss more time than originally anticipated (Boston.com)."

Sounds like everything went well, and this doesn't worry me too much since the NBA season is so long (he is expected to miss 6-8 weeks). Still, this is going to drive me crazy, because with him out this means more playing time for Tony Allen, who once again proved last night that he is a piece of shit loser that should just jump of a bridge. In the grand scheme of things it won't make much of a difference, it'll just aggravate me, because you know Tony Allen will have one really strong game and get everyone's hopes up then disappear or get injured.

Quisy Out A Couple Games

Marquis Daniels will miss some time because of a left wrist and thumb injury. Daniels could receive a magnetic resonance imaging exam today.

"It's been swollen the last couple days, so it's better to just rest it up," Daniels tells The Boston Globe. "I wanted to keep playing but Doc Rivers said it's best to rest it. I thought I could play through it. ... It's not broken, though. But it's not getting better and I keep getting hurt in practice and games. Hopefully, it shouldn't be long." ESPN

Does this mean the resurgence of Tony Allen? I think so. This will most likely be Tony's last chance of proving himself in a Celtics uniform. I'm going to give him a fair shot, but I'm not expecting a lot. If he can play and be an effective defender I will be pleasantly surprised, if not I won't be surprised. I think the Celtics have the talent to mask Daniels being out and will be fine without him for a couple of games.

Quisy Is A Hockey Player

Marquis Daniels has been taping his left wrist since he experienced soreness in it after a game against the Pacers a week and half ago.

But as he explained to the Boston Herald, he's all good.

"I'm a hockey player," he told the paper. "I'm all right, it's OK. I'm just protecting it a little bit."

With Tony Allen about set to come back, the Celtics will have another backup shooting guard option if Daniels' injury ever gets worse. ESPN

A couple of things, I hope this is just an injury that goes away and everyone is freaking out about nothing. The second is, I'm glad he related himself to a hockey player, because what gets overlooked in basketball by people who never played the sport is how physical the game actually is, fouls are not "pussy" calls, and how much jumping, defending and pivoting takes a toll on your body. I'm no way saying that basketball is as physical as hockey, because it isn't. but for all of you who think it is a "pussy" sport you all get a big Child Please.

Rivers Already A Marquis Daniels Fan

"The Boston Celtics signed Marquis Daniels because of his ability to play multiple positions on the floor. Coach Doc Rivers wants to see how he'll do playing point guard with the second unit in the season.

"I'm interested to see how Marquis handles the point with the second unit and what other teams do," Rivers told the Boston Herald. "If they keep the 3 (small forward) on him then there's no cause to worry. I wouldn't be shocked to see some teams actually put their point on Marquis and try to pressure him up the floor. If they do that, we're going to post Marquis. That would put the ball back in Eddie House's hands, but then Eddie has the 3 on him and he won't have any pressure. So that's what will be interesting, to see how teams play that lineup (ESPN)."

I love Rivers' thinking here. Basically they are going to use him like they use Pierce. When a team tries to go small and put more pressure on the ball the Celtics will send Daniels low and post him up. Otherwise we all know this guy is quick and will get some open looks from the outside. I am interested to see how much the Celtics will play Daniels as a PG. Anyways it is amazing what the Celtics have done to rework that bench.

Daniels Going The Way Of Kenny Anderson

Marquis Daniels is going the way of Kenny Anderson, Tom Gugliatta, Al Jefferson and Mikki Moore and wearing the number seven. Seven seems to be the go to number with the Celtics organization because ever other number is taken or being used, however Marquis is going to wear it well, unlike his predecessors (sorry Al).

Also, there is a rumor that we signed Daniels for 2 years instead of 1. A 2 year 4 million dollar contract. I’ll get back to you as soon as I hear confirmation

Marquis Daniels Injury Update

"The Boston Celtics signed Marquis Daniels yesterday using the $1.99M biannual exception. Daniels missed the final 13 games last season after sustaining a wrist injury, but his agent, Glenn Schwartzman, said Daniels sat out only as a precautionary measure. "It was a minor wrist thing," Schwartzman tells The Boston Globe. "If it were a playoff situation, he would have played. But Indiana didn't want to him to get hurt when they were out of the playoff picture, so they shut him down. He could have played a week or 10 days after the injury (ESPN)."

Sounds like everything is fine, and that he will be 100% for the start of training camp. I am really excited to see how Daniels fits into the Celtics bench. He is one of the main pieces the Celtics need to play well off the bench if the Celtics are going to make a run at another title.

Marquis Daniels Finally Signs

The Boston Herald reports Marquis Daniels has agreed to sign for the $1.99 biannual exception with the Celtics. Both sides had tried to find a third team to include in a sign-and-trade, but they couldn't find one.

According to the newspaper, Dallas had interest in Daniels and the Pacers wanted to re-sign him. ESPN

Good, I'm really sick of having to answer questions about him. He is a hell of an addition to this Boston Celtics team and his versatility is even more important. He can come off the bench for the 1-3 positions and have some solid scoring and defense. He may be the single most important player on the Celtics roster, because he (along with Sheed) control the minutes of the big three.

Daniels To Back-up Rondo?

Recently in a John Hollinger Chat On ESPN he answered a couple of questions regarding the Celtics, however, one question and answer stuck out in my mind.

Q. Who should the celts sign as back up PG?

JH: They already have a deal with their guy, Marquis Daniels, they just haven’t inked yet because they’re desperately trying to make it a sign and trade. Daniels will play with House in the backcourt with the second unit and they’ll trade assignments on D.

I don’t know if Daniels is best used as a 1, rather than a back-up to Pierce. Daniels has the handling of a one, but he isn’t a true point guard. Plus I would hate to waste his height there. There isn’t much difference mentally between him and Eddie House when it comes to playing the 1. He would be a shoot first, pass second player. So what is the solution? Either we sign some scrub point guard to waste a roster space, or we go internally and keep Eddie House at point or see what Lester Hudson can do. I don’t have a reason to really have this much faith in this kid, but I really think he can hold down the back-up point roll. Either way, I really think this is a situation that people are looking to deep into. When the Celtics won it all Eddie did just fine as the back-up, sure we tinkered with Sam Cassell (and that experiment failed miserably), but at the end of the day the Celtics won the chip with Eddie as the back-up.

No Progress In Daniels To Celtics Trade

"While the Pacers and Celtics still hope to find a third team to make a sign-and-trade deal for Marquis Daniels work, The Indianapolis Star reports Daniels will likely end up signing with Boston for the $1.99M biannual exception (ESPN)."

This has been a really odd deal, since everyone is acting like it is done, yet it doesn't seem to be all that close. The Celtics have to get this done, as he is one of the keys to their offseason. I would be freaking out a lot more, but every media outlet is acting like there is no way that this won't be completed. We'll keep you posted as to when this will be made official.

Update On Daniels To Celtics

"The Celtics’ attempt to sign free agent Marquis Daniels - a deal they have attempted to facilitate with a sign-and-trade arrangement with Indiana - has hit a snag. The Pacers are reportedly dissatisfied with what the Celtics are offering - with the primary bait said to be guard Tony Allen and possibly Gabe Pruitt. As a result, according to a source close to negotiations, the Celtics and Indiana are now searching for a third team to make the trade work (Boston Herald)."

As a Celtics fan I want this done ASAP, because it is a steal for the C's. With that being said, how the fuck can the Pacers do this deal? They get nothing in return. Maybe they just noticed how much Tony Allen sucks. Hopefully they can find a 3rd team, because Daniels would be a great asset to the Celtics bench.

It is also being said that the Pacers are starting back off this year because of Allen's "off-court issues, including death threats in Chicago that required extra bench security during last spring’s playoffs, cut against the grain of Pacers president Larry Bird’s attempt to move away from the legacy of players like Ron Artest and Jamaal Tinsley".

God I fucking hate you Tony Allen.

Celtics Get A Steal With Marquis Daniels and His Tattoos

Whenever this silly sign in trade is done, the Celtics will already have a better squad then the championship team. The players from what I hear ranges from Tony Allen, Billy Walker, Brian Scalabrine, and Gabe Pruitt. None of those guys are or have been any impact on the team since joining. If anyone wants to argue than, yes, Scal logged some solid minutes in the playoffs and what have you, but the guy was and will continue to be a joke.

With the addition of Wallace and now Daniels that gives us already one hell of a bench. Daniels is a very verastile player, who can play the 1-3 positions. Gets about a fifth of his offensive from each of fast break opportunities, pick and rolls, and spot ups. Shows solid one-on-one skills as well. Decent jump shot. Doesn’t show ideal follow through. Won’t hit many three pointers, but he’ll take them when he is open. As for his defense he an guard the 1-3 positions, but is best matched up against 2s, or smaller small forwards. Is excellent out on the perimeter and has a great motor.

As much as I loved Bill Walker and Tony Allen, I will take Daniels in a second over them. He is the real deal and although Boston fans know that they are getting a stud in Daniels, this will be one of the most overlooked deals by the rest of the NBA, until you know, playoff time.

Celtics Get Daniels

"Free-agent guard Marquis Daniels has committed to signing with the Celtics, according to a league source. Daniels, 28, will receive the biannual exception contract worth $1.9 million, unless a sign-and-trade deal can be worked out with his former team, the Pacers.

Daniels, expected to be used as a backup for Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, averaged 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds last season for Indiana. The Pacers declined to exercise their option on Daniels, which would have been worth $7.3 million next season. Daniels, who started his career in Dallas, had also been talking with the Mavericks, Charlotte, Houston, New York, and Orlando. Celtics forward Brian Scalabrine has been mentioned as part of a possible sign-and-trade with the Pacers (Boston.com)."

Great move by the Celtics. I have been hearing that Tony Allen could be part of this deal also, which is great news by itself. The Celtics now have a backup for Allen and Pierce something that looked to be a big hole on their bench going into this season. I really like the way this team is being setup, and their bench is looking better and better. We'll have more on how this affect Big Baby later.
