"Michel Therrien, his team fading in the Eastern Conference playoff race less than a year after making the Stanley Cup finals, was fired as the Pittsburgh Penguins' coach on Sunday night and replaced by minor league coach Dan Bylsma (ESPN)."
I almost never think a coach that leads his team to the finals the year before should be fired, but this team has way too much talent to have a 27-25-5 record. This should easily be a 45+ win team, especially when they have the top to scorers in the NHL (Crosby, Malkin). You would hope that a coaching change will add some life to this team, but nothing is going to change until this team plays better defense, and hits a little harder. They have all the flash, and can put up points, but when it comes down to the grind to win a game, they just don't seem to have the intensity.
Minor league coach Dan Bylsma will take over the team. I don't know much about him, but he has a very impressive minor league record (35-16-1), so the Penguins hope that will transfer over to the NHL.
