Daily Red Sox Spring Training Update

The Sox played two games yesterday. Here are some notes from those games...

Red Sox 7 BC 1

- Beckett pitched two scoreless innings, had two strikeouts, while throwing 15 of his 22 pitches for strikes. Coaches said he looked strong and relaxed.

- DP's boy Junichi Tazawa also pitched against BC, and actually earned the win in this game. He threw a total of 4 pitches, all for strikes, as he recorded 3 outs in the 5th inning.

- Clay Buchholz also pitched a scoreless inning. All the news from Red Sox camp is that whatever problems he had last year they are behind him, and he looks filthy.

- Boston was actually losing this game before scoring 6 runs in the 5th.

Game 2: Boston 2 Twins 5

- Dustin Pedroia doubled in his first at-bat of the night. I still don't know why he is so good, but he gets it done every night.

- Tim Wakefield has a tough first start giving up three runs on five hits and walked two during his two innings. Bard caught him, and did not seem to have a lot of problems. This was also the case last time Bard caught Wakefield, until the regular season started...

- Justin Masterson, Manny Delcarmen, Javier Lopez, and Ramon Ramirez combined to throw 5 scoreless innings. Billy Traber let up 2 runs on 3 hits in one inning.

Dice-K did not play in either game, because he is over in Japan getting ready for the WBC. He did pitch in a game in Japan, and did not fair well allowing five hits and two runs in 1 2/3 innings. A lot of times pitchers will struggle in spring training, because they are trying new pitches, and also trying not to over work themselves.

Boston plays again today at 1:05pm against the Pirates. The game should be on NESN.
