Change of Venues

So the Red Sox played in front of 115,000 people in the LA Coliseum Saturday night in the latest chapter of an ever lengthening story of sports teams playing in the wrong stadium. The Sabres and Penguins played in Ralph Wilson Stadium in the winter, the NFL had a game in Wemberly Stadium in London, and pretty soon the Knicks will probably play a game of basketball on the tennis courts of the Meadowlands.

This gimmicky stuff is pissing me off. After the Sabres and Penguins played, newspapers across the country printed columns about hockey teams playing in football or baseball stadiums. The Bruins in Fenway? The Rangers in Yankee Stadium? After 115,000 paying customers saw the Dodgers and Sox play an exhibition game, you bet your ass the MLB owners were thinking about staging gimmick games in nearby football facilities. Why not have the Rangers play in the Cotton Bowl? Or the Tigers play in The Big House? Maybe an interleague series between the Red and Indians in Ohio Stadium?

I'm fucking tired of this shit already. Hockey is not an outdoor sport! Baseball shouldn't be played in football stadiums (See: Oakland and Florida)! The days of multipurpose facilities like Candlestick, Three Rivers, and the Astrodome are over! Why are we trying to bring them back?

Love,
The Commodore
