EASTERN CONFERENCE:
#1 Montreal Canadiens vs. #6 Philadelphia Flyers
I’ll be rooting for terrorism to strike in this series because both of these teams deserve to go straight to hell. The Canadiens are flopping pussies, the Flyers are cheap shot artists who learned how to play hockey in prison showers (in other words, they wait for your back to be turned and for you to bend over). It should be a great match-up. One team loves to take it, the other loves to give it. Montreal wins it, though, in 5 games.
#2 Pittsburgh Penguins vs. #5 New York Rangers
The 7th series in this year’s playoffs to be between divisional opponents. Pittsburgh has the young stars, New York has the overpaid veterans and a great goalie. This might prove to be the best series of the playoffs. New York wins in 7 games
WESTERN CONFERENCE:
#1 Detroit Red Wings vs. #6 Colorado Avalanche
The intense rivalry between Colorado and Detroit from the late 1990's might be gone, but there's nothing like a conference semifinal series to rekindle an old flame. If Jose Theodore stays hot, Colorado has a chance to turn this into an exciting series. If not, Detroit will roll over them. Red Wings in 5.
#2 San Jose Sharks vs. #5 Dallas Stars
These two hockey mad cities go at in a classic, old school Pacific Division donnybrook. Well, if Fox had the NHL, that's how they'd promote this series. Two solid, complete teams square off. Dallas scored at will against Anaheim, and Marty Turco was good between the pipes. San Jose struggled a bit with Calgary, but guys like Evgeni Nabokov and Joe Thornton were built for the Stanley Cup playoffs. San Jose in 6 games.
