Trevor Hoffman, the all-time leaders in saves and the face of the San Diego franchise, will not return to the Padres for 2009. The team has withdrawn its contract offer for 2009 to Hoffman, who is eligible for free agency this fall. ESPN
You have to feel bad for this guy. He is the all time saves leader and will never be talked about as an elite closer due to him being on a shitty San Diego team forever. Hoffman's career has started to slip as he had his highest era of 3.77 since 1995, and only had 30 saves. I believe he will be picked up by Cleveland, Florida, or a team like that. He is going to be a useful player much like Joe Blo was for Cleveland two years ago, and Troy Percival was for the Rays this year. I will predict he will have 37 saves for whoever he plays for next year.
