92 Lakers, 83 Celtics
Ray Allen beat Reggie Millers 3 point record in the 1st quarter last night. He needed 2 to beat it the first came when Allen took a feed from Garnett and got off the record-tying shot as Derek Fisher was late to defend. Allen nearly assumed sole possession of the record a moment later in transition, but a 3-pointer from the left side of the arc wouldn't fall. You just wanted him to get it because you could tell the Garden wanted to explode.
Just moments later, with 1:48 to go in the first quarter, he buried No. 2,561 from nearly the same spot as the tying shot. Allen got a wide-open look and buried the triple to establish the NBA mark.
I'm happy for Ray, he has been so good for so long and it's good seeing him get his credit. Out of the big three he has the most absurd work out regiment and has been the most overlooked. I'm glad Danny stuck to his guns and didn't make any trades last season and brought the band back together this season.
I think Ray's number will most likely get retired by the Celtics alongside to KG and Paul Pierce.
That's all I remember from last night... fuck off.
BMack's Take:
I hate making excuses anytime "my" team loses, but last night the odds were just so stacked against the Celtics that I really don't take this loss too much to heart.
To start the Celtics were missing the following players...
- Shaq
- Daniels
- West
- Erden
- O'Neal
- Robinson (during the game)
You know what that's called? Your bench. Not one player on that list will make national headlines by missing the game, but what is does is put too much stress on this aging starting lineup. On top of that Pierce was in the hospital last night trying to get hydrated while battling the flu, and while Ray's accomplishment is nothing short of amazing you could tell it was affecting his game. He was jacking up a lot of shot early, and after he didn't seem to have the same legs, which is why we ended up seeing Von Wafer on Kobe. I am sorry that is just never going to work.
So, is there anything we can learn from this game? Sure, I can think of 2 things off the top of my head. First, the Celtics really need to find a backup to Pierce. Anytime he isn't on the court the Celtics are a mess. With Daniels out the Celtics need a serious upgrade on their bench.
Second, is that Perkins still doesn't look completely healthy. He put up a decent stat line (12 pts 9 rebs), but he seemed slow going to the basket and almost hesitant to go in strong in the offensive end.
