First, how awesome does Ortiz look right there? Now, back to business...
We all knew that David Ortiz didn't like losing Manny last season, but now he is coming out and saying publicly that the Sox need another bat. Ortiz said the Sox could use “another 30-home run guy and we’ll be all set.”
Translation: I can't do it by myself in the middle of the lineup. Get me some protection.
I know I am one of the few that really thinks Teixeira is coming to the Sox, but Ortiz even commented about that...
“I haven’t thought about it because we have Mikey (Lowell at third base), we have (Kevin Youkilis, who can play first base or third),” Ortiz said yesterday. “Mikey had surgery. You don’t know what will happen. Hopefully, he comes back healthy. You definitely need to find another guy here who can produce (Boston Herald).”
Translation: I would be fine with Lowell being gone, as long as their is another bat, and I get my protection.
Maybe I'm crazy, but the Sox aren't going to go after any of the big name pitchers (unless it is Lowe, and I don't see him coming back), so they will have all the money in the world to go after a guy like Teixeira. I love Mike Lowell, but I think the Sox wouldn't mind dealing him, and even paying some of his contract if they could add a player as talented as Teixeira. Lowell is a great guy, but he is old, and Youk can play just as well defensively as he can (plus stay healthy). You add that to what they add in the lineup, and the Sox are once again favorites to win the World Series.
Lineup with Teixeira, and without Lowell:
Ellsbury
Pedroia
Ortiz
Teixeira
Youk
Bay
Drew
Lowrie
whoever the catcher is
Not too bad if you ask me....just a thought.
