The NFC East has been among the NFL’s most competitive in terms of all four teams being involved the past few years but 2009 looks to be a two team race. The Eagles and Giants will be battling it out for the division with the Giants showing their championship pedigree and leading the NFC East.
DALLAS COWBOYS
Prediction: 8-8
The Cowboys have a coach in Wade Phillips who will never win a big game and quarterback in Tony Romo who doesn’t strike fear into other teams with TO now in Buffalo. This team is less talented than 2008, a year in which it went 9-7 and missed the playoffs. Cowboys fans will be envisioning Bill Cowher strolling the sidelines by November.
NEW YORK GIANTS
Prediction: 12-4
Yes, they will miss watch-my-leg Plaxico Burress but Osi Umenyiora is back and this defense is as scary as ever. Eli Manning, as much as I dislike him, has proven he can do more than just manage the game and he is a legitimate threat as a down field passer. The fact that Hakeem Nicks has emerged as another weapon for the Giants makes this team even better and more potent come playoff time.
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
Prediction: 11-5
This has to be one of the fastest teams in recent memory. Imagine a formation in which Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick, LeSean McCoy and DeSean Jackson in the same Wild Cat formation. Pretty scary. Darren Howard and Asante Samuel will once again lead this defense but it will miss Jim Johnson more than people think. The Eagles will just miss out on the division title but grab a wild card spot.
WASHINGTON REDSKINS
Prediction: 7-9
The 'Skins high-profile acquisition Albert Haynesworth hasn't proven he can stay on the field for 16 games nor has Jason Campbell been consistent over a full season. If these two perceptions stay the way they are, Washington will be in for another mediocre season. Clinton Portis may get his 1200-1300 yards this year but in general this offense has showed the ability to put enough points on the board to win in the East.
