"Bobby Abreu settled for a one-year $5 million deal with the Angels last winter, but apparently will be looking for far more when he hits the free agent market again. Jon Heyman of SI.com says Abreu has declined a two-year, $16 million offer to stay with the Angels. SI.com said Abreu turned down a similar $16 million deal from the Rays last winter (ESPN)."
It is so hard to say whether what Abreu did is stupid or not. On one hand he had a great year and could be looking for a 3 year deal worth about $10 million a year, and once Bay and Holliday are off the market teams might reach for him. On the other hand they might not. They certainly didn't last season. For now it will be a wait and see, but he can certainly help his value if he goes off during the playoffs.
