"Forward Marc Savard, the Bruins' leading scorer, has been placed on long-term injured reserve because of a broken left foot. The Bruins did not say when Savard suffered the injury. The Bruins recalled forward Trent Whitfield from Providence on an emergency basis. Savard, who has four goals and three assists, will be out four to six weeks. He has led the Bruins in scoring each of the last three years, and did not miss a game last season while amassing 25 goals and 63 assists for 88 points. Whitfield, 32, was signed as a free agent in July and has appeared in 177 NHL games with the Capitals, Rangers and Blues. He had three goals and eight assists in six games for Providence this season (Boston.com)."
The Bruisn just can't catch a break right now. It is going to be tough for them to score over the next couple of weeks. Think about the guys they have lost. Savard and Lucic are out with injuries, on top of the fact the Bruins traded away Kessel and Kobasew (over 50 goals). The good news is that it is a long season and hopefully the Bruins can weather the storm...
The Commodore's take:

Just a few days after trading Chuck Kobasew, and placing Milan Lucic on long-term injured reserve, the Bruins lost another key forward in Marc Savard. The team announced today that the playmaking center has a broken left foot, and will miss 4 to 6 weeks. Savard scored twice in Friday's 3-0 win over Dallas.
On the bright side, it's better to endure these injuries in October than in April or May. In last year's playoffs, injuries to key players helped contribute to Carolina's 7 game series win in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Journeyman Trent Whitfield was called up from AHL Providence to take Savard's roster spot.
