Breaking News: Paul Pierce Out 2 Weeks
"Celtics captain Paul Pierce is expected to miss the next two weeks of the season after undergoing minor right knee surgery Wednesday. Pierce was admitted to New England Baptist Hospital to undergo a procedure to drain an infection, the morning after scoring 21 points in the Celtics' 103-94 win over Indiana.
"Paul felt fine after the game," Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said. "He felt great. A few hours later there was swelling and pain, and so they put him through some tests this morning. Then, they went in and they felt like they needed to clean out the infection. It's nothing structural, and it's a guess, but they are saying two weeks. I'm always when worried when a player gets hurt but the good news is there was no structural (damage)."
The Celtics called up Bill Walker from the Maine Red Claws to replace Pierce. Celtics captain Paul Pierce is expected to miss the next two weeks of the season after complications developed from minor right knee surgery Wednesday morning, according to a team source. Pierce was admitted to New England Baptist Hospital to undergo a procedure to drain fluid, and an infection was discovered in the knee. The Celtics arrived in Orlando Wednesday afternoon in preparation for Friday's game against the Magic (Boston.com)."
This took me a bit by surprise, but in the grand scheme of things I don't think it will matter much. You have to wonder if Pierce's up and down play lately had anything to do with his knee acting up. Anyways, it is a long season, so as long as this puts an end to his knee troubles the Celtics will be fine.
