I don't know how the Celtics won this game. If you told me after the game that the Celtics had basically 2 bench players Von Wafer and Glen Davis (Nate Robinson played but only played 5 minutes) and Paul Pierce had 1 point on 0-10 shooting, I would have thought we got blown out.
Fortunately, I watched the game and no one had to explain it to me and I've never been so impressed with a team after a game. The only negative I can say is the Celtics were fortunate to outlast the Heat in the 4th as they played like they had no gas left in the tank. However, the game was won in the 3rd quarter.
Here is the breakdown of the best quarter I saw the Celtics ever play:
They Started the quarter down 4 points. This quarter was all about Rajon Rondo, he started it off by attacking early and often, he drew 2 fouls, made a layup and made a ton of passes that led to fouls. On top of that he played unbelieveable defense that led Miami to have a 24 second shot clock violation and this was all within a couple minutes of the quarter, now the C's are up 46 to 43.
The oddest thing about this quarter was Rondo guarding whoever brought up the ball, unfortunately for him it was LeBron James. Lebron is 6'8,260, Rondo is 6'1, 170, it was like watching, I don't know but it was comical. Rondo tried his hardest and it was somewhat successful. After the game Doc said that Rondo just did it, and that there was no gameplan for that, Rondo took the initiative.
Because Rondo is pestering LeBron the Heat decide to send a message and throw a hard but legal screen that leads to Rondo getting taken out. Rondo popped up and yelled at Perk for not giving him the heads up. On the next play down, KG sets a harder screen on Mike Miller, taking Miller out. Ray Allen's shot goes up, and Wade throws a hard shoulder into Garnett, while Allen's shot goes through the hoop. They gave Wade a flagrant 1 which I strongly disagree with but KG got to shoot 2 and the Cs got the ball. KG is a hell of a teammate, he saw that Big Z knocked down Rondo, so KG took justice in his own hands. This was a big example of the Celtics getting in the Heat's head. Meanwhile in the game the Celtics go on a 8-0 run.
After the whole scrum was over Rondo continued being a dick and decided to do this:
I sound like I'm beating a dead horse but Rondo really took reign of this game during this quarter getting Miami to commit 4 fouls, grabbed 5 boards, had 3 assists, made 2 more passes that resulted in shooting fouls, and personally scored 9 points. But, the most important thing Rondo did was guard LeBron James and get in the Heats head.
Boston up 11 to end the third.
The 4th quarter was weird though because I was waiting for the Heat to do something and it never happened, much like game LeBrons last game as a Cav. Nothing was going the Celtics way, they were missing shots, there were two horrendous calls on KG that put him in foul trouble and the Celtics were getting visibly frustrated. The Celtics looked to be letting this game slip away as the final minute ticked down. Rajon Rondo put up a 10 ft jumpshot that he really needs to make, and missed, Miami had 20 seconds left, down 2. LeBron heads to the hoop for the tie, or even the win but Pierce gives LeBron a hard foul, preventing the and-1, and LeChoke misses the first, but makes the second. Then Glen Davis hits 2 huge FTs putting them up 3. Then the Heats last play was also odd as LePuss passed up a good look at 3 and differed to Mike Miller who bricked a 3. Game Over.
Oh yea, this happened too:
C'mon man
