Seymour’s Wife Charged With Lynching
"The wife of New England Patriots defensive lineman Richard Seymour was arrested yesterday in South Carolina on charges of lynching, which is akin to group fighting, stemming from an altercation at a New Year’s Eve party. The alleged victims, who told police they were invited to the party, were involved in a “verbal altercation” with a group of people at the party, the station reported. The two alleged victims told police they were “jumped” by a group of people and assaulted sometime after 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 (Boston Herald)."
The reason I put this story up is not because it has to do with Richard Seymour, it is because I am really surprised at the definition of "lynching". "Any act of violence inflicted by a mob upon the body of another person and from which death does not result (Boston Herald).” I always thought lynching was when a group of people gathered and like strung a someone up from a tree or something. I didn't know there were varying degrees, and you could be charged with lynching for basically jumping someone. Anyways, it really doesn't sound like she is in that much of trouble. The "victim" only had a sprained wrist, so it sounds like should would get community service, and probation.
