DC Hot Stove

The MLB have been quiet, a little too quiet, here is what is going on around the league...

- The market for Manny may be heating up, as Boras has come out and said that several other teams than the Dodgers have offered Manny a contract, and he expects him signed before Spring Training. Obviously he could be lying, but it may be enough to get the Dodgers to up their two year $45 million offer (win an option for a 3rd year). Torre also admitted that he had called Manny to tell him he wanted him back on the team.

- No change in the Varitek debacle. The Red Sox have given Jason Varitek a deadline of Saturday to either take or leave the offer of $5 million in 2009, and includes a dual option for 2010 which would be $5 million if picked up the Red Sox and $3 million if Varitek picks it up. In short, he'll be a Red Sox by Saturday.

- The D-Backs have signed Jon Garland to a one-year deal with an option for 2010. It is said to be worth between $6-8 million. This is a great signing for the D-Backs, since I believe Garland will be a great pitcher in the NL (think Derek Lowe). He throws a lot of strikes, and I think you will see him as a boarder line All-Star this year.

- Tom Glavine has received a clean bill of health from Dr. James Andrews and will meet with Braves GM Frank Wren later this week to discuss the possibility of rejoining the club.

- Reports are coming in that the Mets are really close to signing Oliver Perez, and with Jon Garland now signed expect the Mets to push even harder for him.

- All trade rumors for Jermaine Dye have died, and it is expected he will start the season for the White Sox. How long he is on the team could have a lot to do with how good the team's record is.

- The Twins are on the verge of announcing a two-year contract with outfielder Jason Kubel worth about $7 million

- Still no offers for Barry Bond, because he is a douche bag, and no one wants to deal with him.

- The Cubs have been placing more calls for Jake Peavy recently, and there may be a chance to get a deal done before the season starts. Yea...but how many time have we heard that before?
