Avery Johnson Turns Down Grizzlies
"Avery Johnson has turned down the chance to make a swift return to an NBA bench with the Memphis Grizzlies. NBA coaching sources told ESPN.com on Friday that the former Dallas Mavericks coach was offered a five-year contract by the Grizzlies to replace Marc Iavaroni, who was fired late Thursday after 1½ seasons in Memphis (ESPN)."
I think this is a smart move by Avery Johnson. The Grizzlies are terrible, and I don't think they are going to resemble a good team for a long time, and I don't know if they have the patience the Celtics had to get better (as DP wrote about before). He is better off waiting, because as we have seen, the life span of a coach in the NBA is very short, and there will be a much better job opening down the road.
