Sox Make Offer To Varitek
"WEEI.com, citing unnamed sources, offered financial details on a potential two-year contract from the Red Sox and states there's a deadline for Jason Varitek to accept the offer: "WEEI.com has learned from a source close to the negotiations that the two-year offer made by the Red Sox to catcher Jason Varitek is for $5 million for the first year, along with a club option for $5 million or a $3 million player option for season No. 2 of the deal. It is believed incentives would be part of the agreement. The Red Sox have set a deadline for Varitek to accept the offer, although it is not known what date has been set (WEEI)."
We all knew it was coming, and I don't think Varitek has any choice but to accept this offer. He is not going to get an offer from anyone else till the season is half over (that's when teams no longer would have to give the Sox a draft pick). Varitek has to be kicking himself for not accepting arbitration, since he would have made between 10-11 million this year if he did. It will be interesting once he signs to see who is going to catch the Wake. I actually think Tek is going to have to, and I expect him to only play 3 out of 5 games, instead of his normal 4 out of 5. We will keep you updated to whether or not he accepts this deal.
Oh by the way, DP just threw up...
