Well now we know the measuring stick to take over this league. It sucks that we lost to the Lakers especially when we were winning the entire game until the very end. However, the Celtics need to get better, and need to improve their defensive intensity to be able to win these games. Last year they had it, and this year they lost a little bit of it.
To the game
The game itself was a great basketball game. Ray Allen had 22, The Truth had 21, KG had 16 (then fouled out with 4:22 in the game), Rajon nearly pulled down another triple double with 16 points, 12 assists, and 8 rebounds, and Eddie House had 16 off the bench. With those stats you would think the Celtics would have won this game, but well contained Kobe Bryant hit 3 three pointers in the 4th quarter including a huge one with Paul Pierce playing the best defense he possibly could have with a minute left to put the Lakers up 101-100. Glen Davis then fouled Odom in OT to put him on the line with 16 seconds left and he sunk both to put the Lakers up 110 to 109. Paul Pierce missed his attempt to win the game up, but Rajon gathered an offensive rebound to give us another a shot to win the game. Then the Celtics possibly had the most poorly executed inbounds play ever, and only left Ray Allen to shoot an off balance 3 point attempt which was an air ball.
I have had faith in Doc Rivers all year but I have to question one decision. Why was Big baby our scoring option down the stretch. The guy was having a bad shooting night to begin with, so why was he shooting 20 foot jumpers when it really counted. One a team with Pierce and Allen, wouldn't it have been better to give it to them or to put the bruiser Powe in instead of keeping Davis in on offense?
Also it was great how chippy it got after the first half. I was never so proud of Rajon when he pushed Kobe and called the a Fucking N-word. That itself is pretty awesome.
Either way they will rally, but I hate Kobe and Vagichic.
