Big Papi is back and he is pissed. He is coming out swinging against the media during spring training...
"I've heard people say, 'He's getting older,' or whatever," Ortiz explains. "I just turned 33. I've never seen a player called old at 33 (Boston Globe)."
He very well may be right, but this is a town that lived through the Mo Vaughn era, so the question is valid. The good news is Ortiz is in the best shape of his career, and that can only help his big frame make it through a couple more season.
Ortiz wasn't done there as he threw in his 2 cents about steroids too. He agreed with Ozzie Guillen saying that the MLB should move the suspension of first time offenders from 50 games to 1 full year. Little surprised that Ortiz would come out and say this as there had been rumors that he used to use steroids after he came out and said that he wasn't sure if he ever had. Anyways, I think the rules are fine as they are, and as long as the players are tested and the names come out there is no reason to increase the penalty.
