Colts Sign Hayden

"Kelvin Hayden agreed to a five-year deal worth $43 million Wednesday night, hours before the Colts were prepared to use the franchise tag to prevent him from hitting the free-agent market, the Indianapolis Star reported on its website (Sportsline)."

Hayden is one of the few bright spots on a weak Colts defense. By signing Hayden the Colts get to keep their franchise tag to use on someone else, and if they had used it on him it would have cost them about $10 million against the cap next season. Overall I think Hayden is kind of overrated. He has never had more than 3 INTs in any season, and I don't see him as a lock down corner, but he is better than a lot of other options out their, so this was probably a smart move by a Colts' defense that can't afford to take a step backwards.
