Suns coach Terry Porter was fired Sunday night and will be replaced by assistant Alvin Gentry on Monday, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher.
Porter was four months into his first season on the three-year, $6 million contract he got to replace Mike D'Antoni, who left after four highly successful seasons to coach the New York Knicks.
Looks like D'Antoni was that good of a coach. Porter just had no shot going into this season. All of their stars are aging and the salary cap was about to kill the Suns as well. Although the Suns were three games over .500, they lost 5 going into the all-star break, and when your team has Shaq, Nash, Amarie, and Jason Richardson that is inexcusable. Whoever is the coach of the Suns these upcoming years, Phoenix has some dark years ahead of them.
