The Yankees were the only team over the $162 million luxury tax threshold and have to pay a penalty of $22.69 million. I think this shows us two things. 1 there should obviously be a salary cap in baseball. I am not just saying that because the Yankees won, but because there is such a gap between the top teams and the lower ones. The 2nd thing we see is there needs to be a minimum spending limit (I think around $70 million), because there is no way there should be revenue sharing and then have a team like the Marlins spend none of it.
