"After struggling to get going early on in Sunday's close win over the Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss gave off some pretty bad body language, appearing to be out of it. Panthers CB Chris Gamble knows why. "We knew he was going to shut it down," Gamble told the Boston Globe after the game. "That's what we wanted him to do . . . he'd just give up a lot -- slow down, he's not going deep, not trying to run a route. You can tell [by his] body language. I know everyone who plays against him, they can sense that. Once you get into him in the beginning of the game, he shuts it down a little bit."
Moss' QB defended him (kind of) during a radio appearance on Monday. "Everyone takes liberties to say whatever they want to say in a situation like yesterday's," Brady told Dennis and Callahan on WEEI. "I've seen plays made on Chris Gamble over the course of the season too. Guys, when they play Randy, want to show what they can do, and I guess they came of the game pretty confident. But Randy's one of the best players in the history of the NFL." Brady then added: "He's one of my favorite guys I've ever played with, one of my good friends on the team (ESPN)."
It is one game, so I am not going to fly off the handle here, but if you watched that game yesterday you knew Moss' head just wasn't into it. Was he just having a bad day? Was it because he got kicked out of practice for being late earlier in the week? There is no way of knowing, but as a Patriots fan it is alarming, since we have seen this guy give up on teams when things don't go well, or he thinks he isn't getting the ball enough. I like to think Moss changed. He has been everything you want him to be with his time with the Patriots, but maybe the honeymoon is over, and if that is the case the Patriots aren't going anywhere this year...
