My Great Grandad Invented The Wave
Just recently I found out that my great grandad Moises Garcia invented the cheer the wave. According to wikipedia: The origin of the wave can be traced back to Santander, Spain where Moises Garcia invented the cheer at the bullfighting arena Plaza de Toros de Santander in the 1930's. Due to him working in a leather company he was relocated to Havana, Cuba where he was closer to the United States. Because baseball was very prominent in Havana, Cuba it is believed that the wave was also introduced to baseball through Moises.
As I was at Fenway the other day thinking about how much I missed Manny, the wave came around and it hit me. The Wave was invented by my great grandad. So next time you people are at a baseball game and are about to do the wave, I want you to thank the struggles of Moises Garcia in believing he can start something great that morning.
