Doc Rivers has yet to decide if he is coming back next year or not yet. He has said that he will make a decision at some point this week, but according to numerous reports Vinny Del Negro is on the Celtics "short list" for coaching options. Del Negro coached the Bulls for two seasons before being fired in May. He accumulated an 82-82 regular season record and 4-8 in the postseason, including a seven-game first round series against the Celtics in 2009.
I am not a big Del Negro fan, and I am not sold that he would be the guy the Celtics would bring in. Ainge is going to want someone he sees eye to eye with and trusts (like he does with Rivers). That's why I still believe McHale will still be the front runner for the job should River step down.
