Rays @ Red Sox Preview
Tough time for the Rays to come to town, but they have been struggling of late, and hopefully the Sox will have enough bodies to field a team. Tonight we will get to see Lackey vs. Shields. Lackey is 8-3 on the year, but if you have been watching the Red Sox at all this season you would know that he has been far from stellar. His K's are down, his ERA is up, and he isn't pitching deep into games. With many of the Sox "stars" out they are really going to need guys like Lackey to start stepping up.
The good news is that he has been good against the Rays in his career (10-3 with a 3.71 ERA), which when compared to how Shields has done against the Sox (4-8 with a 5.02 ERA) there is reasons for optimism.
Tampa Bay beat the Sox the first 4 times they faced each other, but the Sox have won the last 3. I am really torn on this game. On the one hand I think the Rays are starting to fall apart, and I think they have too many up-and-down players, but on the other hand the Sox are fielding basically a AAA team.
Fuck it, I'll be optimistic.
Red Sox win 8-7
Player of the Game: David Ortiz
Game starts at 7:10pm on NESN.
