Geno Auriemma Has Something to Say About Something

After win No. 88 in a row was in the books, Geno Auriemma finally let loose: He thinks some people are rooting against his record-setting players because of their gender.

"I just know there wouldn't be this many people in the room if we were chasing a woman's record," the Connecticut coach said Sunday near the end of his postgame news conference. "The reason everybody is having a heart attack the last four or five days is a bunch of women are threatening to break a men's record, and everybody is all up in arms about it." ESPN

God I Hope my gf or any woman in my family doesn't read this... oh well, they will understand.

You know what Geno, fuck off. No one gives a shit about you're 88 win record, and the only reason people are in that room interviewing you is because of some title 9 bullshit that makes us "have to" pay attention to womens basketball. I respect the fact you have won so many games in a row, but it should be in two god damn categories. Men wins and woman wins. No way in hell you should be compared to John Wooden and his pyramid of success. You had a cute run in a league that no one cares about. When I think of legendary coaches in college basketball, I'll think of Wooden, Bob Knight, Roy Williams, Coach K and you a lot more mens basketball coaches before I get to Geno Auriemma. You know why? Because they are 2 different sports.

And also Geno, shut the hell up. The only reason I'm talking about this today is because you brought it to the forefront. If you truly didn't want there to be comparison you shouldn't have said anything. You had the opportunity to celebrate your team that you set up, but instead you marred it in controversy, way to go. You can't have it both ways. You want know one to show up? You now are belittling the sport by your comments, and giving us the fire to look deeper into your statements.

What Geno has done is impressive and it does deserves to get a blurb in the front page of a sports section, but don't you compare what you have done Geno with the likes of John Wooden. You have to face the truth Geno, you will be considered a great Women's coach along with Pat Summitt, but not in the coach's pantheon of Men's college basketball. It's disrespectful to Men's basketball to be compared to women's and visca versa, so with this win streak being impressive lets call it what it is. A great wins record in women's college basketball.

Candace Parker was the shit.
