The Illinois State Lottery is shelling out $1,000,000 to a Chicago Blackhawk season ticket holder, and all he had to do was watch Martin Havlat score a goal 10 minutes into the 2nd period. That was the promotion. If a Blackhawk scored exactly haflway through the 2nd period, not a second more or less, than one fan in attendance would win $1 million.
By the way, this was only the 3rd game of the promotion.
The odds of this happening in any particular game are 1,000 to 1
according to this article. That means 25 to 1 that it will happen in a season. Another way to look at it: this is supposed to occur once every 25 years. And it happened in 3 games.
