The Orioles and outfielder Nick Markakis agreed to a six-year, $66 million extension, pending a physical, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.
I think Markakis is going to be one of best players in the MLB within the next couple of seasons. He is the definition of a 5 tool player. He steals just about 20 bases a year, hits .300, around 20 HRs, is unbelievable in the field, and runs the bases well. I think he will improve in each of those categories over the next 2-3 years, and will be a 35-40 HR hitter. I can't say enough about this kid. It is just too bad he is going to waste is time on the Orioles, since they don't even seem to have a farm system that is going to give them anything special (other than a catcher). At least Baltimore fans will have one thing to look forward to, and that is Markakis challenging for MVPs for years to come (probably against Sizemore)."
