Sheets Out For The Year?

"Free-agent pitcher Ben Sheets is considering elbow surgery that would probably keep him out for most, if not all, of the 2009 season, according to a major league source familiar with Sheets' medical prognosis (ESPN)."

Well I guess we know why the Rangers have been holding off on signing Ben Sheets. This is terrible news for this kid, and really for the Rangers, because they needed a guy like him to give them anything that resembles a pitching staff. Still, not completely sold that he is done for the year, because Sportsline is reporting this story a little differently...

"Ben Sheets, the injury-plagued, free-agent starting pitcher, is expected to undergo elbow surgery and be sidelined for four to six months (CBSSports.com)."

Either way there is no way he is going to get anything more than a minor league deal till he gets a clean bill of health, or after he has the surgery.
