Miami Heat basketball operations employees have accepted up to a 20 percent pay cut in order to avoid layoffs.
The cuts affect everyone in the department, including team president Pat Riley, head coach Erik Spoelstra, assistant coaches, scouts and others. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel first reported the salary reduction in its Tuesday editions.
Player salaries are not being affected.ESPN
Figuring the Heat have laid off 20% of their employees, it is really cool to see someone the caliber of Pat Riley to take a pay cut. In these rough economic times it is refreshing to see that some people in sports actually care. I just wish that athletes did the same things because their salaries are outrageous and all they do is play a game. Meanwhile teachers, and people who actually make an impact on peoples lives are getting laid off. Nice country we live in.
