The Kansas City Royals have agreed to a five-year, $7 million deal with Noel Arguelles, a 19-year-old left-hander who last year defected from Cuba, reports YahooSports.com.
The Kansas City Star reports today that while an agreement is in place, the Royals are still working out the logistics.
The signing represents a notable step forward for the small-market Royals. One scout told the Star that Arguelles is a "big-time prospect." ESPN
I'm totally sold on Arguelles. He is going to be on my fantasy team this year. Noel has athletic body and wide receiver-like build, and his changeup projects as a plus pitch with his curveball further behind it. Arguelles's command and control are still well below average and he has limited professional pitching experience, so I wouldn't expect him to reach the majors for three or four years. He's probably coming up in 3 years due to the Royals being terrible and they will rush him, but that will be o.k. After some grooming in the MLB farm systems his command will get better.
