"The San Diego Chargers are one of the teams that might be able to draw well in the Los Angeles area; they'd certainly do better than the Jacksonville Jaguars -- one of the other teams rumored to be on the move -- because the franchise has more history, and the team is the closest geographically to L.A.
The reason why the Chargers are in the discussion at all is because they've had a difficult time developing the finances required for a new stadium, with the idea that Qualcomm is not sufficient for their needs. While the ongoing thought was that the team would finance the stadium construction privately, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports on Friday that the team is now going to ask to get some public funding as well. Given the current economic climate, this could put an end to the plan pretty quickly (ESPN)."
LA should have a team, but the Chargers have a good fan base, and I really wouldn't understand the move from that stand point. Then again, if they want a new stadium, and Schwarzenegger has already signed a bill passing a new stadium in LA then might take a serious look at it. In my eyes I think it would be much better for Jacksonville to move. That town can barely support their team, they don't really have an airport, and there would just seem to be a lot more money rolling around in LA.
