"The Boston Red Sox already have signed a shortstop in Marco Scutaro and have come to the winter meetings trying to re-sign outfielder Jason Bay. While it will not be a burning issue in Indianapolis, another offseason priority is to sign Victor Martinez to a long-term contract extention, according to the Providence Journal. Alan Nero, the agent for Martinez, told the P-J that contract talks are likely in January. The Red Sox exercised a $7 million option for 2010 last month and have made it clear that Martinez, and not Jason Varitek, will be the starting catcher next season (ESPN)."
Good. Get it done. V-Mart is the 2nd best offensive catcher in the AL, and the SOx need to keep this guy. It is so hartd to find a solid catcher that can actually produce. I love V-Mart and hope the Sox can give him a 4-5 year deal. We will keep you posted, as it seems this is in the early staged of negotiations.
