Patriots Cut Greg Lewis

"Cutting Greg Lewis isn’t in the same league as the Richard Seymour [stats] bombshell trade, but it comes as a surprise nonetheless. The receiver had long been coveted by Patriots [team stats] coach Bill Belichick, who admired him from afar when he played with the Philadelphia Eagles. He was acquired via trade in the offseason. But after a preseason that included three catches for 58 yards, Lewis was given his walking papers yesterday (Boston Herald)."

This surprises me. It seems like he was playing pretty well, and could fill in that slot receiver roll if anything were to happen to Welker. In the end it looks like rookie Julian Edelman and Sam Aiken will be playing a much bigger role then they did last year. The Patriots also have the speedy Slater to be in the mix...
