Clinton Portis will probably miss Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos, the Washington Post reports, but this injury also brings to light the elephant in the room: Portis' long-term viability as the Redskins' running back.
The Post's Jason Reid writes that Portis' teammates believe his play has suffered because of his poor work habits. In addition, they did not appreciate how he threw fullback Mike Sellers under the bus.
Beyond that, Reid points out Portis' age and how running backs with that many miles typically drop drastically in production, without much warning ESPN
I like Clinton Portis but he has been awful this season, and Reid is right when he talks about mileage on RBs. We have seen rb's like LT, Shaun Alexander, and Duece McCallister just fade without warning, and maybe this injury plagued season will get the ball rolling in a downward spiral. I still think he has one or two good years left in the tank, and if the Redskins were to do something drastic like cut him, every team should jump to get him.
