Michael Bay Getting The Mail
My Love For Rasheed Grows
"Rasheed Wallace was told he should watch his critical statements towards referees, but he says he won't stop. He also plans on buying Tim Donaghy's book.
"Either way they're going to get me," Wallace told the Boston Herald. "If I don't say nothing I'm going to get fined, and if I say something I'm going to get fined. So I might as well say something about what's on my mind, what I want to say. They're going to hit me up either way. I've been through that before in Portland. When I wasn't talking to the media they were fining me. But then when I did talk to the media they didn't like what I had to say, so they fined me some more. So I was like, 'Well, (expletive), if you're going to fine me I might as well say what the hell I want to say (ESPN).' "
Sure the technicals bother me, but like I said before the refs gun for him and he really doesn't deserve a lot of what he gets. If they are going to go after him either way, I am glad at least that he is going out fighting, and really saying what is on everyone's mind.....NBA refs are the worst in all of sports.

Chris Johnson Going For NFL Rushing Record
"The Tennessee Titans may try to get Chris Johnson the single season rushing record on Sunday, especially if his teammates have a say. Johnson needs 234 yards to eclipse the record of 2,105, but for now the goal may be 2,000 yards. After all, you can't just hope for 234 yards any given game.
But they play the lowly Seahawks and, as Titans WR Kenny Britt told the Tennessean, "We know when his name goes in the history books, ours does too." So the players may be pushing Johnson to aim for the record, but Seattle coach Jim Mora was more realistic: "That's a lot of yards for one game (ESPN)."
It will be hard to get 234 yards, but with how bad the Seahawks have been playing anything is possible. At least this gives Titans fans a reason to watch. Also, it will be interesting to see how Vince Young bounces back after an awful game against the Chargers.
Prediction: Johnson falls 50 yards short of the record, but Titans win in a blowout.

Texas Tech Losing Top Recruit
"Texas Tech's top-rated recruit, four-star WR Kadron Boone of Ocala (Fla.) Trinity Catholic, the No. 96 prospect in the ESPNU 150, is expected to reopen his recruitment in the wake of Mike Leach's firing.
"I've been talking to schools just in case something like this happened because you never know what is going to happen," Boone told ESPN.com's Gerry Hamilton. "I've been staying in contact with LSU, Cincinnati, Louisville, Florida, Miami and West Virginia. All I can do is take this in, get home or talk to may parents tonight and get their reaction and go from there (ESPN)."
Well there you go Texas Tech, it has already begun. I believe Texas Tech made a huge mistake firing Leach. Just like Kansas I expect them to fall off the map, and it will all be because some snot nose kid made a big deal out of nothing....nice job.

Bruins Looking For A Trade
"The Boston Bruins will have a lot of assets once the trade deadline comes around. They have a plethora of draft pick, and the Boston Globe writes that they also have youngsters, like Tuukka Rask, Blake Wheeler, Mark Stuart, and Matt Hunwick, that might also serve as trade bait.
So today the Boston Herald writes, "Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli, with a bundle of high picks in the next two entry drafts, will have enormous flexibility to acquire an impact player before the March 3 trading deadline -- the sort of acquisition that, for many teams, has been the catalyst of a championship."
The Bruins will be looking for a top-six forward, and the Globe speculates that Atlanta's Ilya Kovalchuk may be available so the Bruins might get in on the fun. Other possible targets include Teemu Selanne, Ray Whitney, Paul Kariya and Alexander Frolov (ESPN)."
We have been hearing rumors for awhile. Even though I would love to see a guy like Kovalchuk on the Bruins, what they would have to give up (Wheeler/Rask) wouldn't be worth it. If I was the Bruins I would look to older players that they could rent for a season, and trade draft picks. Guys I would be look at would be players like Selanne, and Keith Tkachuk.
Why Not?
Why not let you friend be a New Years firework show?
Cardinals Close To Signing Holliday?
"The St. Louis Cardinals appear to be moving closer to a deal with free agent outfielder Matt Holliday, but it will cost more than $100 million to get it done. ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney is reporting that there is increased optimism within the Cardinals' camp about working out a deal for Holliday.
Agent Scott Boras is believed to have an offer in excess of $100 million from the Cardinals, and club officials with other teams sense he is shopping that offer. Boras has been doubling back to teams that had previously touched base on the outfielder, citing a possible salary figure of $18 million.
Derrick Goold of the Post-Dispatch reports today that a deal is "gaining momentum" and that the Cards' offer is potentially the largest in franchise history, topping the $100 million extension signed by Albert Pujols in 2004. Goold added that a resolution could come as early as next week (ESPN)."
It sounds like the Cardinals (much like the Mets with Bay) are competing against themselves. The Cardinals really need Holliday back, and I believe the will get him. There had bee rumors earlier in the week that the Orioles were going to jump into the mix, but their owner has come out and shot down those rumors. Boston had interesting, but after signing Lackey and Cameron, they seem to be at their max payroll...

Marshall Pulls Hamstring During Practice (UPDATED)
"The CBS affiliate in Denver reports that Broncos WR Brandon Marshall strained his right hamstring in practice Wednesday, throwing his status for Week 17 vs. the Chiefs into the air. Marshall was running a route when he came up limping. Once he was off the field, he was tended to by the team's trainers (CBSSports)."
This would be a disaster for the Broncos who are still fighting for a playoff spot. Either way,I don't see the Broncos making it out of the first round. They haven't been the same team that started 6-0, and they strike me as a team that will just be happy making the playoffs...
***UPDATED***
Several reports say that Marshall will be able to play this week.

Lowells Surgery A Success
"According to a source, Mike Lowell was found to have a 95-percent tear in the radial collateral ligament in his thumb when Dr. Donald Sheridan operated on him today. The surgery went well, Lowell will return to his home in Florida tomorrow and will need 6-8 weeks of recovery. That will have him ready to resume baseball activities during spring training (Boston.com)."
A part of me find this somewhat unacceptable. He had a 95% tear, and NOW they are going to take care of it. I don't know if it is Lowell's fault, or the Red Sox medical staff (my guess is the Sox), but there is no reason this wasn't taken care of until now. Most likely the Sox will not be able to move Lowell until he can prove he is healthy. It's too bad they didn't take care of this sooner, so there could be more certainty about this starters for next year...

Pacquiao Files Suit Against Mayweather
"Manny Pacquiao upped the ante Wednesday in his standoff with Floyd Mayweather Jr. by filing a lawsuit alleging that Mayweather and others defamed him by falsely accusing Pacquiao of using performance-enhancing drugs. The suit filed in federal court in Las Vegas further complicates efforts to reach an agreement for a proposed March 13 fight between the two boxers. The fight has been stalled by demands by the Mayweather camp that both fighters submit to random blood and urine tests leading up to the bout.
Pacquiao claimed in the suit that he has never tested positive for any performance-enhancing drugs, but that Mayweather, his father and uncle, Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions chief Richard Schaefer embarked on a campaign to make people think he used drugs.
"The truth did not stop Mayweather and the others," the suit contends. "That is because they are motivated by ill will, spite, malice, revenge and envy."
Pacquiao's attorney, Dan Petrocelli, said his client could be out millions of dollars if boxing fans believe he used steroids or human growth hormone to win titles in seven weight classes.
"The damage to his reputation and lost business opportunities could be in the tens of millions of dollars," Petrocelli said (CBSSports)."
This fucking blows. Everyone wants to see this fight, and it seems like at the very least it is going to be delayed. Pacquiao might be right, and he may never have used steroids, but I find that there is zero excuse not to take more drug tests. What negative affect could it have? Anyways, these guys need to get this fight done. Boxing needs this, and there is just too much money being thrown around not to have a fight.

College Bowl Picks/Previews: Part VI
Here are the New Year's Day Bowls. There's some really good ones to enjoy while nursing your New Year's Eve hangover.
11:00AM - ESPN
Outback Bowl - Tampa, FL
Northwestern Wildcats vs. Auburn Tigers
Northwestern? Really? Good for them, I guess. They're actually pretty good, going 8-4, 5-3 in the BigTen, and they were the ones who finally beat Iowa. Auburn started hot, but lost 5 of their last 7. But they did give Alabama a good fight, they will have many more fans supporting them in Orlando, and it's hard to pick against an SEC team. I'm predicting an Auburn victory.
1:00PM - CBS
Gator Bowl - Jacksonville, FL
#16 West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Florida State Seminoles
This will be a fun game to watch. I think WVU is a bit overrated here. Also, Tallahassee is a mere 3 hour drive from Jacksonville. FSU is without a doubt the best 6-6 team in the country, and they'll pull out the upset here.
1:00PM - ABC
Capital One Bowl - Orlando, FL
#13 Penn State Nittany Lions vs. #12 LSU Tigers
Without a doubt, the best non-BCS Bowl out there. PSU couldn't win the big games this year, which has been a pattern for them recently. They'll win 9+ games, but are incapable of topping a quality team. LSU is a quality team. And LSU will win this for the SEC.
4:30PM - ABC
Rose Bowl - Pasadena, CA
#8 Ohio State Buckeyes vs. #7 Oregon Ducks
Another great match-up, that will turn into another disappointment for the BigTen. Oregon lost to Boise State on their blue field, and lost at Stanford. They also beat Utah. Ohio State is very good, but still just shy of the level they need to be at. They lost to Purdue. Apart from their wins against Penn State and Iowa, there's not much they can boast about. I say Oregon wins their first Rose Bowl since 1917.
8:30PM - Fox
Sugar Bowl - New Orleans, LA
#5 Florida Gators vs. #3 Cincinnati Bearcats
The BCS's master plan develops here, as an undefeated team (Cincy) is assured to go down. There's no way Florida doesn't demolish the Bearcats. I'm picking Florida and rooting for Cincinnati. Maybe if the Bearcats win, Tim Tebow will hang himself.

Suns 116 Celtics 98
Don't read into this game too much. Boston was playing without their best two players (Pierce, Garnett). You add that to the fact they are already missing Glen Davis and Marquis Daniels, you got yourself a problem.
So here is the good news. The 2 players I hate on the Celtics (Tony Allen and Shelden Williams) had good game. Allen logged in 32 mins putting up 12 points with 6 assists and 5 boards. The only knock you could have on him was his fouls, but you can chalk that up to the number of mins he had to play. Williams added 14 points of his own and 5 board in only 19 mins. Perkins also had a solid game with 13 points 7 boards, but 1-5 from the free throw line is unacceptable.
The bad news centered around the play of Rasheed Wallace. He was invisible during this game. He only put up 6 points in 31 mins of playing time. Boston really needed him to step up to have any shot at this game, but once again you can't read too much into this game when you are missing 4 really good players. So relax Celtics fans and wait till they are healthy...
Bruins 4 Thrashers 0
The Bruins ended this game in the first 17 mins, as they racked up 3 goals quickly. I would like to give the Bruins all the credit in the world, but the Thrasher simply looked like they didn't want to be there. Boston beat them to every puck, and the Thrashers really didn't even fight to get back on defense throughout most of the game.
The Bruins got 4 goals from 4 different players (Byron Bitz, Marco Sturm, Steve Begin, and Patrice Bergeron). Tuukka Rask stopped all 18 shots he faced for his 2nd shutout of the season. Rask is now 10-3-2 in games he starts, and is looking like he could be one of the better goalies in the NHL. There were rumors that the Bruins could send Wheeler, Rask, and one other player for Ilya Kovalchuk, but right now I wouldn't trade Rask for anyone. It is just that hard to find goalies this good (like good starting pitching in the MLB).
Anyways, the Bruins should be in good shape for the Winter Classic tomorrow (if it doesn't get rained out) against the Flyers.

Celtics vs Suns Preview
Losers of two straight games, the Boston Celtics could be without Kevin Garnett (sore right knee) for Wednesday night's game against the Phoenix Suns, and perhaps longer.
The Celtics already will be shorthanded against the Suns. They will be without Glen Davis (mild right ankle sprain) and Paul Pierce (right knee) and could also be missing Rajon Rondo, who is questionable with a sore left hamstring.

Darko Milicic Blasts NBA
"Darko Milicic, the No. 2 pick in the 2003 NBA draft, has had enough with the NBA and will play in Europe starting next season. He says everyone in the NBA lies, including the Detroit Pistons.
"Yes, they did," Milicic told MLive.com. "They lie to everybody. It's the NBA. The NBA, all around the league, same (garbage). 'Your chance is going to come.' All that kind of (garbage). (Forget) that. I've got enough of that kind of stuff, so I decided I'm going to Europe."
"I've got to be real," he said. "There is no team in the league that is going to give me the chance that I'm looking for. My only chance is back in Europe. I'm going to do that. I want to be happy. I want to play."
Milicic says going back to Europe will allow him to renew his love for the game (ESPN)."
Listen Darko I stood up for you when you came out and said that you were going back to Eurpose because you weren't good enough to play here, but this shit is just awful. Darko didn't get a chance, because he was really just that bad. Sorry Darko you are just another bust draft pick, now go rot in Europe...
Orton Looking For A New Job Next Year?
"The NFL has certainly turned into the "League of Quarterbacks", as rule changes and offensive trends have made it so that a team's passing attack is much more vital to its success than a solid running game.
Although Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton did a fine job to start the season, the Broncos' fortunes turned for the worse when he started to slide as well, and they're now fighting for their playoff lives after a 6-0 start. The Broncos will have a reasonably high first round pick thanks to the Jay Cutler trade with the Chicago Bears, but the pickings in free agency and the trade market are a little slim (ESPN)."
I like a lot of the QBs coming out in this draft, so the Broncos may actually take a stab at one. I feel bad for Orton. He is starting to be the new Brian Griese, good enough to hold a job, but the team is always looking for a better one. Either way I think Orton will start next season, but I would not be surprised in the least if they draft a QB for the future.

Stafford Surgery Goes Well
"The Detroit Lions say quarterback Matthew Stafford has undergone successful surgery on his right knee. Stafford had what the Lions called minor surgery on Tuesday. He was placed on injured reserve last week after a physical exam revealed he wouldn't be ready to play in Sunday's season finale against Chicago (CBSSports)."
The Lions have a long way to go if they want to compete in the playoffs, but Stafford did show some signs of life, and if he can Calvin can get on the same page this offense could become decent. I was not a believer at all in Stafford when he was draft, but I have to admit I was impressed with the way he handled himself this year. The next step is to stay healthy can and get Calvin Johnson the damn ball.

Breaking News: Texas Tech Fires Mike Leach
"Texas Tech has fired football coach Mike Leach. The school handed a termination letter to Leach's attorney, Ted Liggett, on Wednesday just before the two sides were to appear in a Lubbock, Texas, courtroom for a hearing on the coach's suspension.
Liggett says the letter says Leach is "terminated with cause effective immediately." Leach was suspended by the university on Monday while the school investigated allegations that he mistreated an injured player. Receiver Adam James alleges Leach twice confined him to small, dark spaces during practice after the player was diagnosed with a concussion (CBSSports)."
Well Texas Tech can now joining Kansas in programs that have ruined themselves. Leach is the main reason Texas Tech was relevant and with him gone I think over the next couple of seasons you will see this once great offense go to pieces. Maybe what he does was wrong, but to be fired for it? Sorry, I'm not buying that for a second...

A's Join Chase For Chapman
"As Jorge Arangure, Jr. wrote Monday, Aroldis Chapman is likely to lose as much as $3 million in taxes now that he's almost certain to not receive any pay for the year 2009.
Had Chapman signed a week ago and received his signing bonus, only his salary would have been taxable because he would not have actually worked in the U.S. until 2010. Now he will have signed and worked in the same year, which would cost him $2-3 million in taxes if he were to accept an offer similar to the one made by the Boston Red Sox of $15 million.
With just three days remaining in the year, it's highly unlikely that the necessary paperwork could be processed in time, even if the lefty were to sign a contract today.
Could the Athletics land Chapman by the new year? The San Francisco Chronicle reports today that the Oakland Athletics are in the "thick of the bidding" for the Cuban defector (ESPN)."
Before this news came out Boston was the only known offer. I have a hard time believing that the A's will out bid the Red Sox for Chapman, so I am still confident that he will make his way to Boston. The only team I could see swooping in and stealing him would be the Yankees, but so far there has been little news about them being in contact with the Cuban prospect...

AFC Playoff Picture
The NFC is basically all locked up, but there is a lot of work to day in the AFC. Only the Colts, Chargers, Patriots, and Bengals have secured a playoff spot, leaving 2 spot left.
1. Indianapolis Colts (14-1): at Bills
2. San Diego Chargers (12-3): vs. Redskins
3. New England Patriots (10-5): at Texans
4. Cincinnati Bengals (10-5): at Jets
Wild Card
5. New York Jets (8-7): vs. Bengals, win and they're in
6. Baltimore Ravens (8-7): at Raiders, win and they're in
----
Denver Broncos (8-7): at Chiefs, need win, Ravens loss or Jets loss, and Pittsburgh loss or Houston win
Pittsburgh Steelers (8-7): at Dolphins, need win, Ravens loss or Jets loss, and Texans loss
Houston Texans (8-7): vs. Patriots, need win, Ravens loss or Jets loss, and Broncos loss
Miami Dolphins (7-8): vs. Steelers, need win, Jets or Ravens loss and a lot of help
Jacksonville Jaguars (7-8): at Browns, need win, Jets or Ravens loss and a lot of help.
I would like to breakdown who the patriots could play, but there are actually 7 different teams the Pats could play in the opening round (Jags, Dolphins, Steelers, Broncos, Ravens, Jets, Texans). The only thing the Patriots are playing for this weekend is the 3 or 4 seed, which really doesn't make a big difference. I just want to see the Patriots avoid having to play the Ravens or Steelers in the opening round (especially the Steelers).

Mike Lowell To Have Surgery Today
"Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell will have surgery on the torn ligament in his right thumb today in Phoenix. Dr. Donald Sheridan, who performed the surgery on Jed Lowrie's wrist, will operate on Lowell. Lowell is expected to miss 6-8 weeks recovering (Boston.com)."
The Sox are still going to try to move Lowell, but there is basically no shot of that happening before spring training. Lowell is going to need to prove that he is healthy from the surgeries to his hip and thumb. I do think someone will jump on him if the Sox are willing to pay about $9 million of his contract. The question is are the Sox willing to gamble and sign a guy like Beltre even though Lowell is still on the roster?

Glen Davis Injury Not Serious?
"Celtics vice president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said Tuesday afternoon that he doesn't believe the sprained right ankle suffered by Glen "Big Baby" Davis is as serious as first feared. Davis got mixed up with Golden State's Rony Turiaf with 9:52 left in the game when Turiaf landed on his ankle.
Davis left Oracle in arena wearing a protective boot and walking with crutches.
"I haven't heard anything, which means nothing is serious," Ainge said. "I sent (trainer) Eddie (Lacerte) a text and I haven't heard anything and usually that means it's not much (Boston.com)."
I don't know how much we can read into this, but it certainly sounds a lot more promising then it did yesterday. I believe Davis to be the key to the 2nd unit for the Celtics, and they can't afford to lose him for too long. Hopefully Ainge is right and Davis will be back soon. We'll keep you posted...

More Mike Leach News
This is for Dr. Schatz (who yelled at me about my thinking on this)
Mike Leach, according to the Lubbock Avalanche Journal, has not denied any of the allegations levied against him by one of his players, and allegedly told investigators that said player’s father, ESPN football analyst Craig James “was always calling and acting like a Little League dad.” The paper claims that Leach had until yesterday to write an apology, and he chose not to.
My feelings on this is that there should be a locker room mentality in this. My speculation is that this kid (who was born with a silver spoon up his ass) had a mild concussion and acted like it was bigger than it is. Mike Leach who was probably fed up with his spoiled ass threw him in the closet. (which is supposedly better for concussions due to no light makes the migraines less.) Let's face it, if this was a normal player and not Craig James' son, we wouldn't have heard one thing about this.
Top 10 Boston Sports Moments
This is our top ten Boston sports moments of the decade.
#10: The Bruins do something relevant.
I had to put post in here so the seven hockey fans who read this site don't throw a hissy fit and start bashing basketball because they envy it because their sport isn't relevant. Anyways, the Bruins swept the hated Montreal Canadiens in the 2008-2009 NHL playoffs, it was the first playoff series the Bruins won in 10 years. Unfortunately, the lost the next series 4-3.
#9: Randy Moss and Wes Welker Era Begin
The 2007 season was like a video game for the New England Patriots. They got this freakish athlete in Randy Moss and this scrapy little white guy in Wes Welker. The Patriots defeated the New York Giants 38–35, finishing their season with a perfect 16–0 record. Moss caught two touchdown passes for a total of 23, breaking the single season record of 22 touchdown receptions previously set by Jerry Rice (in 12 games in the strike-shortened 1987 season). On the same play, Tom Brady broke Peyton Manning's single season record set in 2004 with his 50th touchdown pass.[36] Moss recorded 98 catches for 1,493 yards in 2007, the highest yardage total in Patriots franchise history and the third-highest total number of catches, after teammate Wes Welker's 112 catches that same season and Troy Brown's 101 in 2001.
#8: The Perfect Season
Even though they lost in the Superbowl, I had never seen a more dominating team in the NFL. They were just the best. Brady had 50 TD passes which is insane if you think about it, and going undefeated in the regular season is very impressive and if anyone can understand how hard it is, look at this year's NFL season.
#7: Game 3 of the 2002 NBA Conference Finals
Before the Celtics beat the Lakers and came back from 24. There was the 21 point game. The Celtics were getting crushed by the New Jersey Nets led by wife beater Jason Kidd but outscored the Nets 41-16 in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, the Celtics still lost the Series.
#6: Sox beat Rockies in the World Series
The Red Sox would win their second championship in four years after 86 years of futility. Boston made it interesting as they always do. They were down in Cleveland in the ALCS three games to one, before rallying to win three straight.
The Colorado Rockies were no match for the Red Sox. They swept Colorado in the World Series fueled by Series MVP, Mike Lowell. Lowell hit .400 with 1 homer and 4 RBI’s. Now all we want to do is trade him.
#5: Ray Allen and KG come to Boston.
I remember exactly where I was. I remember calling everyone with excitement. I remember being like Holy Shit, we are going to win the chip and we did. After missing out on Kevin Durant and Greg Oden, the Celtics decided to swing some of the biggest moves in NBA history, first was the Ray Allen deal, then a 7-1 deal to the Wolves. The new Big 3 came into place and that was just awesome.
#4: The Boston Celtics defeated the Los Angeles Lakers for Banner #17.
The season prior to this was terrible, we won only 24 games and the team had talent, but looked like they were going no where fast. Then a year later, Boston would post 66 regular season wins. They would be pushed to the brink by Atlanta and Cleveland(game 7 was the same day as my graduation) in the playoffs, but would end both series at home.
After a gritty performance against Detroit in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Celtics advanced to the NBA Finals against the hated Lakers. The Celtics took the first two games at home before succumbing to the Lakers in Game 3.
In the pivotal Game Four, the Celtics had a comeback for the ages. They would go to rally from 24 points down to defeat LA at the Staples Center in front of their celebrity fans. Boston had the momentum in the series and would go on to beat LA in six games for their record 17th world championship.
#3: The Patriots defeat the Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI.
One of the best superbowls of all time and when the best qb of all time emerged as a winner. With John Madden and everyone saying they need to kneel the ball instead of trying to win it in regulation, everyone listened but Bill Belichick. Brady had 1:30 left on the clock and no timeouts remaining. Instead of taking a knee, he went out and made history. He led the team down the field to set up a 48 yard field goal by Adam Vinatieri. The kick was good and gave New England their first Super Bowl Championship. This was also the start of 6 championships for Boston in this decade.
#2: The Red Sox come back from a 3-0 series deficit to defeat the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS.
This series in essence was the World Series for Boston and it didn’t start out well. The Sox trailed the Yankees three games to none in the series. They just got walloped and embarrassed at home, 19-8. “The Steal” by Dave Roberts in Game Four in the bottom of the ninth off of Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera was the spark for history.
Then the fire just grew.
David Ortiz homered in the bottom of the twelfth to leave hope for Red Sox nation.
Then he did it again the next night with a game winning single in the fourteenth inning.
The Sox were now only trailing by one game going back to New York. The momentum pendulum began to swing in a very big way.
Curt Schilling and his bloody red sock pitched a game for the ages in Game Six. He went seven strong innings allowing only one run. Sox win again.
Game Seven. Winner takes all.
And the Sox did just that. They would not leave New York as losers again.
Their bats erupted and the Yankees were left in disbelief. The Red Sox had just finished the biggest comeback in baseball history. And only one of a handful of teams to do so in all of sports.
This Series made me gray and fail numerous amount of classes.
#1: The Red Sox beat the Cardinals in the World Series, reversing the curse.
Everyone had a huge load lifted off their back. Yes, the Yankees series was more like the World Series, but this was the actual certificate.

If you want to see the rink at Fenway and don't want to spend a ton of money I would check out either this game or one of the college games that will be played there. Anyways, it would be kind of awesome to see these old timers play, plus who doesn't want to see Kiefer Sutherland decapitate Tim Robbins?

College Bowl Picks/Previews: Part V
Time to pick the New Year's Eve Bowls, and there are some tantalizing ones on the menu. All these games are on Thursday 12/31.
12:00PM - ESPN
Armed Forces Bowl - Fort Worth, TX
Houston Cougars vs. Air Force Falcons
Good C-USA/MWC match-up here. Houston has the shorter trip, but there are plenty of Air Force people in Texas who will come out in support of AFA. Houston's put up 29+ in every single game, including a win over Texas Tech. They also beat #19 Oklahoma State in Stillwater. Still, they lost to ECU. Air Force is a solid mid-pack Mountain West team, but Houston's too much for them.
2:00PM - CBS
Brut Sun Bowl - El Paso, TX
Oklahoma Sooners vs. #21 Stanford Cardinal
I think everyone outside of Pasadena and Berkeley have been Stanford fans this season. The Cardinal is one of only 2 teams that beat Pac-10 Champ Oregon. Oklahoma will have more fans with the game in West Texas, and I think this will be an exciting contest. But I'm going with OU to win.
3:30PM - ESPN
Texas Bowl - Houston, TX
Navy Midshipmen vs. Missouri Tigers
The Tigers are part of a dreadful Big XII North that was nothing short of a joke. I think Navy sails away with this one.
6:00PM - NFL Network
Insight Bowl - Tempe, AZ
Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. Iowa State Cyclones
Both teams boast 6-6 records, so the game should at least be a close one. ISU feasted on North Dakota State, Army, and Kent State to get their 6 wins. Minnesota had South Dakota State and Syracuse. ISU sucks on toast, Minnesota is just kind of bad. Minnesota wins.
7:30PM - ESPN
Chick-fil-A Bowl - Atlanta, GA
#11 Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Tennessee Volunteers
Complete mismatch. Then again, the ACC has struggled against the SEC this season. But Va-Tech never plays at the same level as the ACC. I think this game is a blowout in favor of the Hokies.
But this Jael Miller girl is too tight not to post a pic of her in a UT bikini.

All Decade Celtics Team
Point Guard: Rajon Rondo
I know he's only been here for 3.5 years but he has to be the guy here. His potential has yet to be fully developed and his stats are so much better than the other two I considered in Kenny Anderson and Jiri Welsch, especially his rebounding and assists. And he started 77 games (not to mention 26 more in the playoffs) as a 21-year-old, second-year point guard for a championship-winning team in 2007-08. Despite his short professional career, Rondo already has put together some pretty solid credentials.
Honorable mention: Kenny Anderson, Jiri Welsch
Shooting guard: Ray Allen
I mean who else would you have put here? Ricky Davis, Delonte West? I don't think so. Ray Allen is one of the best pure shooters in NBA history. He has only been here for 2.5 years, but has accomplished quite a lot since being here. Allen was the second piece to form the big three and played a major role in the championship.
Honorable mention: Ricky Davis, Delonte West
Small forward: Paul Pierce
The Truth will never be looked in the same light as Kobe Bryant or LeBron James, but he should. The 12-year veteran is the face and MVP of the decade. He's been extremely reliable playing 79 games or more every season this decade except for one and a terrific scorer averaging 22.7 points per game over the course of his career. He will be close to the top of every Celtics record come the end of his career and that's saying a lot. As his career has progressed, he's even turned himself into an indispensable contributor on the defensive end.
Honorable mention: Wally Szczerbiak, Walter McCarty
Power forward: Antoine Walker
I know a lot of you think KG should be the man here, but let's face it, employee number 8 was here for 7 years. Toine was one of my favorite players growing up and sure he was frustrating, but he was a solid player. In the 2001-2002 season, Walker had his best overall season by helping lead the Celtics to a 49-33 record and their first playoff berth in 7 years. He was second in his team in scoring (22.0 ppg), first in rebounds (9 rpg), and 1st in assists, (5.0 apg). Pierce and Walker took the team all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals where they fell to the New Jersey Nets in 6 games. The next season, Walker made his 3rd All-Star team.
Honorable mention: Kevin Garnett, Al Jefferson
Center: Kendrick Perkins
It's a tough call between Perk and Mark Blount. Both spent about six seasons in the green. Both steadily improved their scoring touch as their careers have gone on. And both served as steady, big bodies down low with more skilled teammates around them on the perimeter. But I hate Mark Blount and Perkins gets the edge in rebounding and in his defensive. He's a better shot-blocker and one-on-one, physical defender than Blount ever was. Plus, he should make the All-Star game this year.
Honorable mention: Mark Blount, Vitaly Potapenko
Coach: Doc Rivers
Why? Because the names Rick Pitino, Jim O'Brien and John Carroll make me cringe.
Patriots Send 4 To Pro Bowl
The Patriots will have 4 players in the Pro Bowl this year; Welker, Wilfork, Brady, and Mankins. Obviously Welker and Brady were going to make it. Brady is having his 2nd best season ever (stats wise), while Welker is starting to make the case of being one of the best WRs over the past 3 seasons. The only guy you could really make a case for deserving to make it would be Moss. He does lead the NFL in touchdown catches, but he has had a lot of up and down games, so I am not overly pissed or anything. Hopefully no Patriots will play in the Pro Bowl, because that would mean they are in the Super Bowl.
To be honest, I really don't give a shit about this. The Pro Bowl is a fucking joke, and they should just get rid of it all together, and do some kind of skill competition. I would much rather watch that...

MacGyver!!!!!!!!!!!
Should The Patriots Rest Tom Brady?
That is the big question around the Patriots this week. On one side, the Patriots have been inconsistent all season, and really could use the reps as a final tuneup before the playoffs. On the other hand risking Brady to injury is kind of stupid (especially since the guy who took out Brady last year plays for the Texans). Also, if the Patriots were to hand this game to the Texans it would basically eliminate the Steelers from the playoffs, which beyond my hatred for them, could be a smart move since I see them as one of the most dangerous teams that probably won't be in the playoffs.
Belichick obviously won't tell us shit, but with Brady being so banged up over the past couple of weeks, you would think they would want to take advantage of some time off.
Breaking News: Mets Sign Jason Bay
"Jason Bay has decided to join the Mets, according to a report on WFAN, pending the results of a physical exam.
WFAN's Mike Francesca just reported that the Mets will have an announcement early next week that they've agreed to a contract with Bay, one of the top free agent hitters on the market. The deal will become official if Bay passes the physical, Francesa said.
The Mets have a four-year offer out to Bay worth about $65 million (nydailynews)."
I have to admit I am a little disappointed. It sounded like Bay didn't want to go to the Mets, and that he had even got back in contact with the Red Sox. Anyways, if he was to go anywhere I am glad it is in the NL (basically I am just happy it is not the Yankees). You will now hear a bunch of rumors about Holliday, but I very much doubt he will end up in a Sox uniform.
Boston is still going to add another bat, because right now I am not overly pumped about their lineup.

Hines Ward Out Vs. Miami?
"Steelers WR Hines Ward re-aggravated his hamstring injury and may not be available for the season finale against Miami. "He's just beat up," coach Mike Tomlin said. "You know if he's got a chance, he's going to show up for this team (CBSSports)."
The Steelers have very slim playoff hopes (though for some reason I still think they will make it), and they really need everyone to be healthy for the finale against Miami. Ward is getting older, but he bring toughness to the Steelers, and his blocking is some of the best in the league. My guess is that he plays. After giving Roethlisberger shit for sitting out with a concussion I think he will do whatever ti takes to tough it through this game...

Saints Bobby McCray Arrested For DUI
"New Orleans police say that Saints defensive end Bobby McCray has been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and other counts. Police spokesman Gary Flot says McCray was stopped by an officer who saw him speeding about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. He was booked into Orleans Parish Prison on charges of driving while intoxicated, speeding, careless operation of a motor vehicle and not having his vehicle registration with him. Flot says McCray did not resist. A Saints spokesman says team officials are aware of the situation and will let the legal process take its course (ESPN)."
What a fucking idiot. His team is falling apart around him, and he goes out and causes a big distraction for the Saints. I still think the Saints can get it going again, but these are the types of things that can easily be avoided.
Note to all NFL players...Nothing good happens after mid night. Be smart. Go Home.
