Last night's game stung, and the problem is that it doesn't just end with last night. The Sox are going to need Penny to go deep into this game, since they really tired out their bullpen in that 13 innings loss to the Rays. It all falls onto Penny's back, and that doesn't sound like good news with the way he has been pitching lately.
Last time Penny was on the mound he was lit up (7 runs) by the ongoing joke that is the A's offense. Penny is 2-3 with a 5.06 ERA in five starts and one relief appearance versus the Rays. He'll be going against David Price tonight, who hasn't been pitching all that great lately either, but was very good last time out going 7 innings allowing only 1 run against the Royals.
The good news for the Sox is that Bay should be back on the field tonight, so their lineup is getting even stronger. Bay has nine RBIs in 10 games against the Rays this year.
Sox Lineup for tonight...
Ellsbury, cf
Pedroia, 2b
Martinez, 1b
Youkilis, 3b
Bay, lf
Lowell, dh
Baldelli, rf
Varitek, c
Lowrie, ss
