Red Sox New Trick
Seems like the Sox have learned a new trick....
Over the past three days, 28 of the Red Sox’ 30 runs have scored with two outs. Francona calls these runs "backbreakers", since they can really kill the confidence of the opposing team. Why are they able to do this? Well there are a couple reasons. One, is that the Sox are finally getting hot at the plate. J.D. Drew, Ortiz, Bay, and Pedroia have all been on fire lately. The next reason is the addition of Victor Martinez who has been nothing short of stellar since joining the Red Sox. Which leads me to the last reason, which is the fact the Sox lineup is finally strong top-to-bottom.
Think about it....Where is the hole in this lineup when Tek is not on the field?
Ellsbury - great speed, and is learning how to get on base
Pedroia - Hits for average
V-Mart - Power, average, does it all
Youk - On Base machine, and also has power
Ortiz - May not be what he once was, but is hitting HRs with the best of them over the past 2 months
Bay - Struggled for a bit, but seems to be finding his stride
Lowell - Has been unreal since coming off the DL
J.D. Drew - Is having a hell of a month, and is always an on base guy
Gonzalez - He won't wow you, but has been hitting well since joining the Sox
That is a lineup that can score runs, and the great news is that they are all hitting their stride at the same time....
