NFL Suspends Wesley
This story is a few days old, but I'd like to expand a bit on it. The NFL suspended Panther Dante Wesley for this cheap shot. He breaks multiple rules with this hit. Clifton Smith calls for a fair catch, and the ball isn't even close to being there yet. Wesley leaves his feet to make the hit. He goes after Smith's head with his elbow.
I think a one game suspension is a bit soft. But not too soft. Some have really railed against the NFL for being soft here, but how often do players get suspended for dirty hits? Usually it's just a fine, sometimes only $5,000, sometimes $50,000. I think Wesley could have gotten 2 or 3 games, but that's the absolute limit.
And I don't think Wesley will be doing anything like this again.
