Ortiz Could Be Talking Himself Out Of A Job
"Big Papi says the Boston Red Sox need more pop. On the day that one potent Boston bat, Jason Bay, officially hit free agency, David Ortiz told the Boston Globe that the Red Sox need to add another 30-home run hitter to the lineup.
"You want to compete with those guys across the street? You better bring it. Period," Ortiz said, referring to the Yankees. "We always need help. We need guys capable to produce. Not only us, everybody. That's what everybody chases in the offseason, guys that can come in and provide power, RBIs."
The Red Sox hope one of the big bats is that of Ortiz, who bounced back from a brutal starts to hit 28 homers and drive in 99 runs in 2009 (ESPN)."
Yea we know Ortiz. Boston's obvious weakness is a big bat. This is all because Teixeira didn't sign with the Sox. I think Bay is coming back, so my thinking is that Boston will try to land a power hitting first baseman. This would put the Sox in a situation where they would have to get rid of either Mike Lowell or David Ortiz. Ortiz bounced back from one of the worst openings to a season I have ever seen, but how long can he do it? I love lowell, but he has hip problems and really isn't an everyday player anymore. Anyways, this pop could come at the expense of your job Mr. Ortiz.
