Rangers @ Red Sox Preview (UPDATED)
Ok, this is the worst a Red Sox has looked to open a season that I can remember. Things don't get much easier with the Rangers coming to town. The good news is that they have been somewhat underachieving also posting a 5-7 record.
Wakefield (0-15 with a 5.98 ERA against Texas) takes the hill tonight, as he tires to have a much better outing then his last time out when he allowed 6 runs and 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings of an 8-0 loss at Minnesota. Still, the problem with this team is that they don't score. The pitching, I believe, will fix itself, but the hitting I am not as sold on.
The Red Sox have been outscored 32-9 during their 5 game losing streak. No one is hitting the ball well really other then Pedroia. One would think V-Mart is due to get it going, and Youk (though he hasn't been terrible) should be primed for a breakout game soon.
Boston will be going against Colby Lewis who has had a great start to the season posting a 2-0 record with a 2.19 ERA. Opponents are 0 for 11 with men in scoring position against Lewis, helping him compensate for eight walks in 12 1-3 innings. The good thing is the Sox are overall patient hitters, so this should be the type of guy we can light up.
I can't believe I am picking them again, but fuck it...
Red Sox 9-6
