Why Not Sign Jermaine Dye?
A lot has been made of the struggles of Big Papi. We have been sitting and waiting for him to show up. I am not entirely ready to give up on him, but he isn't giving us a lot to work with, so the Sox need to look another way. If Ortiz ends up being a platoon player with Lowell fulltime, I think they should cut him and sign Jermaine Dye.
I don't have a lot of faith that Lowell can play a full season, and Dye can add some much needed power to this lineup. Also, even if Lowell does go off he will still be out of the lineup a lot at the end of games because he can't run, so in this case Dye can come off the bench. Another problem with Lowell is that at this point it seems as if the Sox don't have much faith he can play the field anymore. Dye isn't a great fielder by and stretch, but I feel as if he could play left field at Fenway since it is a short field and you don't need a lot of speed.
Anyways, just food for thought, but at least a guy like this could give us some more power in the middle of the lineup.
