The Excellence That Is Tiger Woods
This past Sunday, Tiger Woods clinched his fifth straight PGA tour victory and is still undefeated this season. Tomorrow, the first round of the WGC-CA championship begins; Tiger has won this event the last three years. Tiger fully intends on winning every event he plays in this season, including the four major tournaments. To be honest, I don’t see anyone stopping him. Tiger is more dominant in golf then any other player in any other sport. He has won 13 Majors in his career, and 64 PGA events. He is second in major victories and third in PGA victories, but keep in mind, he is only 32. If you’re like me and find it difficult to appreciate golf, then just appreciate what this guy is doing. The only person that can stop Tiger, is Tiger.
Aside from being the best golfer in the past decade, Tiger Woods has become an American icon. He makes more money through endorsements then he does playing golf. Tiger has his own video game, clothing line, golf clubs, and a new series of Gatorade. He has accomplished everything you and I could hope for. However, he is not satisfied. It is believed that by 2010, Tiger Woods will become the first athlete billionaire.
When his career is over and he is the keeper of all the prestigious golf records, he will still never receive the praise of Jordan or Montana. While I don’t feel that it makes us ignorant as sports fans to not pay attention to golf, it is about time we started to appreciate the most dominant athlete of our lifetime. Currently Tiger is number one on the money list, and the overall number one golfer in the world.
And let’s not forget about this…
