The Hills Are Alive

Just when one passion of mine is out the door (Duke Basketball) another one rushes in to fill the void. That's right, The Hills third season officially kicked off last night with an hour long episode that was solid but not great.

With half the 'sode focused on Lauren's travels to Paris and the other half on Spencer's ill advised trip to Crested Butte, it was a lot to digest in just 60 minutes. Plus, there were too many 'what the fuck' moments when you just knew shit was going to go wrong and of course it did.

For instance, when Lauren decided to wear her thousand dollar dress to the club the night before the ball, you just knew it was going to get fucked up. It was painful to watch and seemed hardly worth it since she was going to be hanging out with a bunch of grungy French dudes. Low and behold, the shit was fucked up the next morning and she had to go begging for another. What does she do with the new dress that was even more elaborate and expensive? Get on the back of a Vespa and drive around Paris in the rain with one of the grungy French fags. Of course.

Or how about Spencer defying logic and reason to fly to Colorado just to talk to Heidi? I think she made it perfectly clear she was all set with communicating when she ignored his 300 phone calls. Nothing like rich pricks dropping serious coin to drive their relationships deeper into the point of no return.

For a second, he did actually have you feeling bad for him since he was exerting all this effort and getting nothing in return. Then he changed all that by calling Heidi delirious and daring her to make the split official. That was a classic right there.

Either way, the future looks bright as we apparently get the return of Stephen from the old school LB episodes. I'm all about clinging to history so I can't wait for that. And if there is one thing we can be absolutely sure of, the climax of this show will not be nearly as pathetic or disappointing as the climax of Duke's past two seasons.
