Burress Sits Out Mini-Camp
“Burress reported to the Giants' mandatory minicamp on Wednesday but refused to work out because he was not happy with the way contract negotiations are progressing between the team and agent Drew Rosenhaus.(Espn)”
Under his current contract Burress will only 3.25 million this year. I say, “only” because other top-notch receivers (Moss, T.O., Fitzgerald) are making three times as much for the 2008 season. Plaxico, when healthy, is one of the best receivers in football. Not to mention he buried the Patriots in the super bowl with under a minute to go. If anyone is deserving of a contract renegotiation it’s this guy. Burress was fourth in touchdown receptions last season, and caught at least one pass in every one of the Giants games. Also, a bond started to form in the second half of last season and into the playoffs, between Manning and Burress. This is crucial to a receiver’s success. Timing and trust are things that typically take years to get down, (unless we’re talking Brady-Moss). It is important for the Giants as an organization to sit down with Drew Rosenhaus and hammer out a deal to keep Plaxico for a long time. If the Giants cannot agree on terms with their star wideout, it would not be surprising to see stories in August of how Burress is getting fined by the day for missing mandatory workouts.
